Coaching Trees...

Jan 23, 2017, 12:36 PM

The day before my flight out of Atlanta for the National Championship game, I had the privilege of attending the CFB Hall of Fame. If you haven't been...go. It's like Toy's R Us for college football fans.

One of the most interesting parts was the "Coaching Tree" section. Let me tell you, this area is reserved for legends.

I couldn't help but think then, and even more now...Dabo's gonna be there one day. He doesn't just develop himself or his players. He develops coaches, and shapes programs. Even those that he's sending coaches on to, so that they can extend the legacy.

I love it. Dabo's tree is young now, but I have no doubt it will be one of the best before he's done. He continues to bring in and successfully develop and promote coaches, both inside and outside the Clemson program. He's just...on another level these days, and doesn't appear to be slowing down, but only gaining momentum.

along with DW4 (we hope). Going 28-2 in two years is incredible. Love to see Dabo keep winning. Hopefully he will hit 100 wins this coming year.

Dabo is already connected to several other trees

Saban, Stallings, Bowden

How does Dabo get a tree of his own, or will his just be an extension of the others? Or are coaching trees only "descendant" trees? Please don't flame...just trying to learn.

And where does Venables fit in? Is he on Dano's tree, Stoops tree, or both?

Lol, Siri hates me as well.

No bashing here, but I spent 4.5 hours in that place and probably could have spent that 3x over. So much knowledge to consume.

I don't know that I have the answers to those questions, or even recall if I read that on the display. What I did take away from the names shown, is that they were all legendary head coaches in terms of their own program first, but then had coaches under them that had also gone on to be very successful.

If it's a tree, then I suppose Dabo will always be part of other coaching trees, as will most coaches, even those already displayed in the museum. CFB has been around a long time.

I also don't know that mixing and matching is a disqualfier. . It's bound to happen.

What I do know is this, Dabo is building under him in such a way, that he has a chance over his career to be mentioned in the same breath as a Bear Bryant or Bo Schembechler.
