I understand the 85 rule and why we can only sign 13, but

Jan 21, 2017, 12:18 PM

I can tell you I have never seen a year where the other regular top10 to top-15 programs can only sign this few. I have never seen it. Mickey said this week that even though we have five underclassmen leaving early, that number was figured into the recruiting and the number 13. Wow, that tells me that if we didn't have early departures this year, we'd only be signing 8. And the tv people say that should make Clemson fans feel good because it means we are not losing that many people. No, I rather think it is because we get a little to charitable with some people that get a scholarship. I'm not talking about the walkons with potential like the Hunter Renfrows of the world. I'm talking about people on our team that have a scholarship and there is no way they are ever going to play. I think we do more of this than most teams and I think that is why we find ourselves with 13 and sometimes 12 instead of our small classes being 18 or 19.

I'd rather have a legacy or 3 star that will make a great practice player than a 5 star who once he realizes he is not going to play transfers to another school

Yeah - with this recruiting strategy, we're never going

to win the national championship. It's about time this coaching staff faced reality.

If people pay attention you would notice some players never get that last year if they're not contributing to the team... Example: Former players Martin Akien and TJ Burell was suppose to be on this years team as 5th year seniors but Dabo took their scholarships away to make more room. This year I only know of Adrien Dunn not getting his last year to suit up.

Aiken & Burrell graduated. Dunn was awarded scholarship

when we signed Grady Jarrett. Who is on scholarship who has no hope of ever playing? Please give us their names in list for, and be sure to CC Crump.

Aren't there 100 other threads you can refer to that discuss this topic? Good grief

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FACT: We have averaged 24 signees per year under Dabo.

The only small class we had was the transition year.

Dabo can Do whatever the heck he wants as long as we keep getting results like been have the past few years

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We just seem to have less attrition than some other schools-

Jan 21, 2017, 2:08 PM

you're allowed 25 signees a year but only 85 scholarships. If you do the math, that's attrition of at least 15 players a year (up to 35 if you include the redshirts and count 5 classes on campus at one time) built into the system.

We've had a handful of juniors leave for the NFL early but by and large we've avoided guys who haven't qualified academically, transferred, or have been kicked off the team in the last 5 years. We've hit on the vast majority of guys who we've signed. That's pretty unusual if you really dig into recruiting numbers around the country.

Smaller recruiting classes doesn't necessarily equate giving out more scholarships to walk-ons, it means we have less attrition and more guys who pan out and stay with the program than other schools.

So far giving schollys to friends/loyal Clemson people have not came back to bite Clemson. 6 of our guys would not have scholarships to almost any other power 5 schools. They have them here and Clemson is National Champs...if we were struggling that may be enough to get a guy on the hot seat.
