Clemson hires Charlie Pell 40 years ago this month

Clemson Hires Charlie Pell Dec 3 1976 -Dec 4 2016.pdf(793.6 K)

I was just thinking this morning that it was 40 years ago this month when Clemson hired Charlie Pell .I was looking to see what the exact day was and I found this article dated December 3 1976.I think now that Red Parker did a lot of good for Clemson but I can remember when Pell was named coach how much excitement there was right off the bat.It was a special time.And now 40 years to the day of that article the Tigers are off to the playoffs again.Lets bring it all home this time! Go Tigers!

Crazy coincidence. In 2010, my daughter rented a duplex from a couple who owned 10 of them in Coats NC for her time at Campbell Univ. During one visit when they stopped by, found out the wife's sister was married to Pell at one time. Would not have expected running across that type connection in such an out of the way place.

That article says Clemson fired three head coaches in seven years (with Parker being the third). I thought Coach Howard retired in '69?
