Remember he was in his car going to Tennessee Summer 2011

I have always liked him as a coach and really think 2011 was just a fluke year with young guys on defense. He recruited a lot of great guys that Coach V was able to capitalize on when they were Juniors and Seniors.

He is a very good coach, but I don't think it was the youth that stumped him. His scheme didn't fit when the offense only has the ball for 2-3 min. Our defense wore down late in games and late in the season because they could not get off the field. Venables has capitalized on this, his defense takes chances and good (turnover) or bad (blown coverage) gets off the field and puts the ball in the hands of the offense. Bama and LSU were perfect fits for Steele, but I'm not sure about Auburn.

LSU's defense wasn't too great last year. If Steele had

We will score 30+ but Auburns D will be very good and it won't be easy.

The real question is why were they stupid enough to......

hire him? It's obvious he fails wherever he goes - don't understand why schools keep taking a chance on him.

He didn't fail here he had two top 25 defenses before massive attrition and problems in 2011. Venables 2012 defense was ranked about the same, it was a two year rebuilt.

He did fail here - otherwise, why did....

Dabo fire him? You can see the difference clearly between him and Venables. It's not just the level of talent Venables has to work with - he's clearly a better DC than Steele.

Well if we had lost like 45-33 to WVU in the OB Steele

probably would have kept his job. There was just too much heat on the staff after giving up 70 and getting embarrassed in a BCS game to not make some kind of change. Steele had a pretty good D in 2009 and a really good D in 2010 (unfortunately the offense sucked that year), but the defense in 2011 was really bad and it culminated in the OB debacle that got him fired.

He took a lowly staff position at Bama after we fired him.

LSU hired him out of desperation when John Chavis bolted for aTm. Auburn hired him away from LSU where he was going to fired because Auburn is stupid and tries to copy everything that Bama and LSU does.

The fact that he bounces from job to job.....

speaks for himself. If he was doing a good job he wouldn't be moving around like he is.

He didn't do well at Clemson because we lacked SEC speed!***

Traditionally the SEC doesn't run spread offenses.

I guess they figured he'd fit right in cause he doesn't defend spread offenses.

Kevin Steele has a GREAT d-mind. Players don't understand it

That is the beauty of BV. He has a great defensive mind AND knows how to communicate with the players so they can understand it too.
