Article on the Fridge

Jun 27, 2016, 1:14 PM

There's an article on the front page of SI.com. It will leave you feeling sad.

He is a large man, and was a beast back then

I learned to protect myself. But all day during class I knew what was coming...Gamenights were easy.
William began attending Clemson games with us when I was a sophomore and he was a junior. Those were fun times.

For those of us who watched him in DV from day 1, its difficult to describe effectively the impact he had on college football in just a couple of paragraphs. He was a physical, athletic freak of nature---largely unblockable by linemen during that period, he was nearly as fast as most of the RB's he faced for the first 10 or 12 yards.

He was almost always blocked (at least attempted) by 2 linemen after his first few games which, of course, opened pathways for other Tiger defenders---and there were some good ones on those teams. He could toss linemen aside--ask a certain former All-American OT who's still a legend at Nebraska--or simply close very wide gaps.....William occupied the minds of every HC and OC he faced.

And he really was as easy going as the article depicts. Just hope The Fridge knows how beloved he was to all Clemson fans from those days.
