player he had ever seen at Clemson. He did not hesitate and said Charlie Waters. He added that the last time Charlie played defense was in high school and then he became an All Pro as a defensive back. Interesting.

Yep, you are correct about Charlie playing at Clemson 47 years ago. Seems like yesterday.
Waters was an excellent player for us.

Charlie Waters completed his Clemson eligibility almost 47 years ago. He was All-ACC one year.
He was a great player and in the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame, but the best?

His record speaks for itself. Banks was the greatest.

Banks was a great man and I liked him but he probably missed the last 15-20 years of Tigers due to his death. That would preclude Woody and CJ. He may have been right considering his time frame. Charlie played a different position every year at Clemson

All I asked him was how these danged new starting blocks were supposed to be adjusted. Then after my first 220 yard sprint as a freshman against a teammate, I asked him who that was who blew me away by 10 yards, at least. He just said, "Son, he's the ACC 220 yard sprint champion". "Ohhhhhhhh", I said. We had a good track team under Banks.
