PENALTIES FOR POSITIVE TESTS:
Each intercollegiate athletics team may have policies, as determined by the head coach in that
sport, which may be stricter than the Athletics Department policy. In no case can a team
policy be less severe than the Departmental policy.
Positive Test Point System:
a) Marijuana / Synthetic Cannabinoids = one point
b) Any Other Banned Substance = three points
K. PLAYING TIME PENALTIES:
Please note points accumulate for the entire duration a student-athlete is enrolled at Auburn.
For example, a positive marijuana test is one point plus a positive Adderall test is three
points therefore the student-athlete has a total of four points which results in a suspension of
100% of a team competitive season.
11
Penalty Structure for use of Banned Substances:
One Point No loss of playing time, one year probationary period.*
Two Points Suspension for 25% of team’s competitive season.*
Three Points Suspension of 50% of team’s competitive season
Four Points Suspension of 100% of team’s competitive season
Five Points Permanent loss of playing status at Auburn University
* All offenders will be considered in a probationary status of a period of one calendar year
following confirmation of their positive result, after which time probation will be reviewed
by a committee consisting of the Athletics Director (or designee) the Head Coach, the
Director of Sports Medicine and the Faculty Athletics Representative. If at any time during
that year the student-athlete, in the opinion of the review committee, is not following through
with his/her student-athlete responsibilities and conforming to expected standards of
behavior, he/she may be subject to additional loss of playing time or loss of scholarship. Any
student-athlete who does not test positive and does not engage in a criminal offense
involving drugs or alcohol during a consecutive 24-month period from his/her last positive
drug test or criminal incident will have one point deducted. For example, if a student-athlete
tests positive for marijuana on May 1, 2014 they are assessed one point. If the person does
not have any other positive drug test or criminal incident between May 1, 2014 and April 30,
2016 the student-athlete will have the point deducted and returns to zero points.

They were just in possession and didn't fail a drug test

That means 0pts and discipline is up to the coach's discretion. The players know the discipline policy is toothless.
