Who invented the forward pass, anybody think?

Feb 6, 2016, 11:40 AM

According to the Athlon

Answer: Former Clemson head coach Eddie Cochems in 1905

This year marks the 110th anniversary of a 1906 rule change that made the forward pass a legal play. Following 18 football - related fatalities in 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt demanded rules reform to make the game safer.
The first pass plays were called by St Louis University coach Eddie Cochems (often referred to as the "father of the forward pass") on Sept. 5, 1906.

Interesting!

No he practiced the progressive fumble which started out as the forward fumble in the wrong direction. That was invented by " Wrong Way" Roy Riegels in the 1929 Rose Bowl.
