Elliott on Gallman's comments after bulldozing defender

Dabo was yelling at Gallman after that play.

Sep 14, 2015, 1:09 PM

But I couldnt tell if it was chewing out or if dabo was just jacked about the TD.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dabo was yelling at Gallman after that play.

Sep 14, 2015, 1:19 PM

The expression on Dabo's face suggested to me that he was chewing out Gallman for taunting. I can see the scenario that Elliott described - he challenged Gallman's effort and manhood, Gallman got all jacked up and really laid the wood to the DB..... but he should have let it go at that, turned his back and hurried to the bench. There's no need to prove your manhood again - at least not to the DB. Elliott was the one who he needed to impress.

He sure did lay a lick on the DB, though...... textbook shoulder under shoulder "BOOM".

He was definatly chewing him out. Dabo was not happy about that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo needs to get some better consistency........

Sep 14, 2015, 1:37 PM

When your DC says he wants players to rip opponents' faces off, it seems a little over the top to chew a guy out for a minor taunt.

Read Dabos lips, he tells Wayne "that's how you run the ball!" He was jacked up! A Clemson player would never keep walking if coach is laying into him.

Just a thought.. #3 also happened to be the t4%^&% that nearly ripped DW helmet off (15 yd facemask) a few plays before. IMHO Gallman was providing a friendly reminder about what happens when you attack our QB....

Re: Did anyone else notice?

Sep 14, 2015, 1:33 PM

My thought too--#3 had a shot coming and I give Wayne all the credit in the world at paying him back completely cleanly and in the play.

Whether truth or not, this is the truth I believe...and he told Gray as much when he was standing above him.

I hate taunting, in general, but I'm all for showing opponents' that we are a team and will take care of each other...

But, then, I'm a hockey guy and protecting your superstar(s) at all cost is the norm...

I thought it was a great run. And he showed good power and leverage in running over the guy.
But, I didn't like him standing over the guy like that. I see that all the time and to me, it's
just not a classy thing to do. You made a great run and everyone saw you run over the guy.
Just go back to the huddle and get ready for the next play.

Yeah... taunting (especially with the game in control) is beneath our beloved Tigers, but I told the guy beside me in the stands... I think that's the guy that got the facemask call on Deshaun, maybe Wayne was saying "keep your hands off my man's helmet" and if so, he kinda had it coming.

"What he said." Gallman probably stood over him a second too long. He should have looked at him for a second to let him know and then walked away. This is the kind of play that can define a game and the game can define the season. Don't taunt the player, just let him know what time it is and in whose house he is in.

Re: I like the attitude and swagger.

Sep 14, 2015, 3:11 PM [ in reply to I like the attitude and swagger. ]

What you are starting to see is the nascent attitude of a championship football team... Do we want championships or great gentlemen on the field? It may be hard to get both at the same time. The competition and the game demand that this is the way it is. I doubt Danny Ford would have chewed Wayne out.

That's the type of attitude I want to see more of from our offense. I love the speed and explosiveness on the offense, and the HUNH, but imagine how much faster defenses would wear down if we're running over and through them.

off by an OL on the next play and the refs should have had to separate about 10 Tiger players from his face mask while he was taunting AE. Those teams had very little fire and I am so glad we see it changing. It's another story if you begin to have off the field crap AND issues with discipline ON the field. I don't worry about that with Dabo in charge.

Sep 14, 2015, 3:22 PM

the Judge, and all the rest of the wild dogs on D back in the day doing the crossed arms skull and crossbones sign after a bone rattling tackle. I don't condone the jaw jacking trash talking but standing over someone for a second, especially an opposing player who has shown a tendency to trash talk, etc., is something I would not encourage but I would be careful about expecting complete gentlemen on the field every play. Football is a brutal game and I think we are watching the development of a NC caliber team and program. I LOVE the fire as long as it does not turn into yellow flags. Be a class act off the field, grad players, do not break the law, and play like you want to steamroll everyone. It is a fine line to draw but Dabo gets it with passion and the Tigers are developing a swagger to go with all of the talent.

When teams look on the schedule and "Clemson" They should know what's coming. That name should begin to instantly incite a measure of fear into an opponent. Anyone who does not understand this has never played football. It is what the game is all about. Clemson should be about tough physical football!!

I'm not saying it did not happen sometimes, and it may be orange tinted glasses I'm remembering through but I really don't remember skull&cross bones from bryant or headen. Seems like William Perry danced a little sometimes after knocking several players around or into each other! Lol, it's been a while though. I do think Gallman pushed the envelope of the kind of sportsmanship Dabo has been building. I for one prefer the quieter business like attitude after scoring, laying someone out. Let the actions, results do the
talking.
