Sep 6, 2015, 10:02 AM

Jonesboro (Zerrick Cooper) 27
Westover 7

Clemson QB commit Zerrick Cooper, who attended yesterdays game vs. Wofford, and Jonesboro entered the game 2-0 and now ranked #5 in GA HS Class AAAA. The first half was a tight battle. After swapping possessions,Westover scored first when junior linebacker Armani Powell recovered a Zerrick Cooper fumble on the Cardinals’ 38-yard line. Cooper is rated as one of the top six quarterback prospects in the country, but when he attempted to scramble on second-and-15 from his own 33, the Patriots swarmed. Patriot quarterback Emory McKenzie orchestrated the 38-yard drive with runs of 16 and 5 yards before the final scoring dash of 12 yards with 2:16 remaining in the first. Ian Valencik converted the point after for a 7-0 lead.

The Cardinals didn’t answer the score until Cooper led a 78-yard drive midway through the second quarter. Montralius Mosley carried the ball three times in the drive for 29 yards, including an 18-yard scoring run.

Cooper, who will play for Clemson next season, finally had time to work without being harassed by the Westover defense and completed two passes for 22 yards that ended with 5:48 to play in the first half. The extra point knotted the score at 7. Cooper came out of the break, hooking up with future Kentucky Wildcat Jordan Griffin for a 12-yard gain, and Joshua James for 43 more. Then Mosley shot off tackle for an 18-yard scoring run with 9:15 remaining in the third quarter. The Cardinals hit the point after for a 14-7 lead.

Westover rallied and drove down to the Jonesboro 5-yard line before coughing up the football. Jonesboro’s Juice Gaston returned the fumble 95 yards for a score with 2:35 to play in the third quarter. The point after made it a 21-7 score.

Cooper went back to work hitting Griffin for a gain of 20, Williams sprinted another 43 and eventually scored from 3 yards out with 10:44 to play. The point after failed and the score would remain 27-7.

J.H. Rose (Cornell Powell) 83
Leesvile Road 43

Spartanburg (Tavien Feaster) 49
Union County 20

Clemson RB commit Tavien Feaster had another monster game with 155 yards rushing on just 10 carries. He also had over 100 yards receiving and two scores. But he wasn't done yet as he returned a kickoff 98 yards for a score.

Fort Dorchester (John Simpson/ Dakereon Joyner) 34
@ Cane Bay 33

In a game featuring big play after big play, the state’s second-ranked AAAA team, Fort Dorchester, escaped the upset bid of homestanding Cane Bay by a score of 34-33. The Patriots, now 3-0, fell behind by two touchdowns early for the second consecutive week but keep finding ways to win, said head coach Steve LaPrad. Fort Dorchester won despite allowing 427 total yards, including 335 yards on the ground. Cane Bay senior fullback Keenan Simpson rushed for 190 yards on 23 carries to pace the Cobras. But Fort Dorchester has one of the top sophomore quarterbacks in the country under center, and Dakereon Joyner came up big once again. The 6-1, 190-pounder threw for 190 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 88 yards and two more scores. Cane Bay managed to limit the area’s leading rusher, Datron James, to 60 yards rushing on the night. Cane Bay’s defense made the early noise when Joyner fumbled on the fifth play of the game. The loose ball was scooped up by Rolando Burse, who raced 49 yards for the game’s first TD with 10:29 to play.

Joyner atoned for his mistake later in the quarter, scoring on a nine-yard run with 4:10 to play to give Fort Dorchester a 7-6 lead. He added a 30-yard touchdown scamper with 1:10 left in the opening quarter to give the Patriots a 14-6 lead.

Cane Bay answered on two plays. After picking up 20 yards on a keeper, sophomore quarterback RJ Roderick connected with Kris Copeland on a 53-yard touchdown pass. Roderick’s two-point run tied the game at 14 with 11:21 left in the second quarter. Fort Dorchester turned the ball over on downs at its own 30-yard line, failing to convert on a fourth-and-nine attempt. Roderick capped a short drive with a three-yard run to give the Cobras a 21-14 lead. The Patriots took their next possession down to the Cane Bay three-yard line, but James was stopped on the one-yard line on fourth down. Two plays later, Simpson broke a tackle at the five and raced the length of the field for a 95-yard TD jaunt, giving Cane Bay a 27-14 lead. Simpson’s run marked the longest in Cane Bay’s eight-year history.

Joyner went back to work, ripping off a 50-yard run to set up James’ eight-yard score with 2:07 left in the half, sending the teams to the break with Cane Bay leading, 27-20.

Midway through the third period, the Fort Dorchester defense answered Cane Bay’s earlier defensive score when RJ Basley scooped up a fumble and raced 35 yards for the game-tying score with 6:43 to play in the third. After recovering a fumble, Joyner put the Patriots on top, hitting Adonicas Sanders on a 39-yard scoring pass with 9:20 left in the contest. Riley Rozinski’s extra point gave the Patriots a 34-33 lead. The Cobras spoiled a few chances late in the game with crucial penalties but had a chance to win with under a second to play. Patrick Jackson’s 42-yard field goal attempt as time expired fell short.

Eagle's Landing Christian (Chandler Reeves) 3
Greater Atlanta Christian 33

Nursing a bunch of injuries, including senior quarterback DJ Hammond’s tweaked back, a shorthanded ELCA (1-2) eventually fell to Class AA No. 3 Greater Atlanta Christian (1-1), 33-3, in Norcross. The Chargers trailed just 14-0 at halftime but couldn’t get their power running game going against a big and physical Spartan defense. Sophomore RB Josh Mays led the way with 70 yards on 15 carries.

Pinecrest (Sean Pollard) 49
Cuthbertson (J.T. Cauthen) 14

Reports state that Pollard was in Clemson yesterday.

Northgate High (Jamie Skalski) 56
@ Troup County 6

Northgate is now 2-0 and has out scored opponents 100-6. Northgate put the game out of reach early, building a 35-0 lead at the end of the first quarter before extending it to 45-0 at the break. Skalski hit on 6 PATs for the game (Tackle totals were unavailable). "They’ve got a kid going to Clemson playing middle linebacker. He’s real good. They’re just a good football team. They’re where we need to be.” Troup County head coach Tanner Glisson.

Argyle (J.C. Chalk) 50
@ Denison 33

Clemson commit J.C. Chalk had 5 receptions for 51 yards.

Wake Forest (Dexter Lawrence) 45
Southeast Raleigh 6

The Cougars scored on their first four possessions before finishing Southeast Raleigh, 45-6, Friday night. The Wake Forest defense held off the visitors until the fourth quarter, with a majority of its starters sitting. The Cougars (3-0) didn’t allow a first down until the second quarter, when they were already leading 28-0. Sophomore running back Devon Lawrence scored twice to round off six rushing touchdowns. N.C. State commit Dylan Parham accounted for Southeast’s lone score. The senior quarterback punched it in from a yard out off a quarterback sneak. The 6-foot-5 Bulldog went head-to-head with Wake Forest star defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence often before Lawrence came out to give the younger Cougars some playing time.

Whale Branch (Nyles Pinckney) 35
St. John's 0

The Warriors are now 1-1 on the year. Star DT Nyles Pinckney signed his financial aid agreement papers recently with Clemson.

Dooly County (Tony Clayton) 6
Turner 50

Turner County snapped a three-game losing streak to Dooly County with an emphatic 50-6 win over the Bobcats. The Rebel victory should rank as one of the weekend’s most surprising upsets, considering Turner is 14-18 over the last three seasons while Dooly is 27-11. According to those trusty Maxwell Projections, Dooly was supposed to win by three touchdowns. Missed it by that much.

Wichita East (Xavier Kelly) 20
Kapaun Mt. Carmel 35

Clemson DE commit Xavier Kelly had one reception for 1 yard (tackle totals unavailable at this time).
"I saw a solid effort from Kapaun which handled Wichita East. The much anticipated duel between Kapaun quarterback Brock Monty and East defensive end Xavier Kelly never materialized---Monty was mostly solid, although he turned it over twice leading to two of the three East scores and Kelly was a defensive non-factor." http://www.kwch.com/news/local-news/for-what-its-worth-kstate-the-big-12-ku-and-week-one-of-the-preps/35121306

Hough (Marquil Osborne) 23
Lake Norman 6

Osborne, a Tennessee commit being courted by Clemson, had a 10 yard TD reception. He returned a punt 82 yards for a TD but it was called back on a penalty.

IMG Academy (Rahshaun Smith) 47
@ Desoto, TX 29

No. 17 IMG Academy scored on a pair of defensive touchdowns in the second quarter and quarterback Shea Patterson threw his 100th career touchdown as the Ascenders make its trip to Texas a successful one with a 47-29 victory against DeSoto.

IMG (Bradenton, Fla.) is off to a 2-0 start after losing a preseason game to American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.). DeSoto, ranked No. 7 in the Super 25 preseason rankings, has now fallen to 0-2 to start the season after a 46-26 loss to Arlington Martin in Week 1

Lotta work and organization into that, ton of good information. Thumbs up.

Like to circulate a petition that seems obvious: can we petition Crump/B-Meist to start pinning these updates? Seems like they're warranted and there is a TON of good, relevant info in these pertaining to Clemson recruits.
