They put out this great video and yet the company that they use now has very low quality. My son and his girlfriend have had to send theirs back on 2 occasions.

I really wish they'd had this ceremony when I was there

Aug 11, 2015, 11:10 AM

If I recall correctly, I simply got a phone call that said my ring was ready and I picked it up in the bookstore. There was no ceremony. I'm glad they do one now because I think it makes a proper big deal over a very important tradition...just wish they'd thought of it 10 years earlier.

Old Rings

Aug 11, 2015, 1:38 PM

I got my ring in 1971. When new, it had a black onyx stone on which the "C", Tree and year were mounted. The onyx was a higher priced option with enamel as the 'standard' black center of the rings. The onyx broke twice in the first couple of years and was replaced under warranty. The 3rd time it broke, I asked for the onyx to be replace with enamel. The enamel is going strong nearly 40 years later .Not sure if that is a comment on the quality of the rings way back when or not.

Like others, I picked my ring up at the book store with no pomp and circumstance. If I recall correctly the total price then was about $100.

I wear my ring almost every day. I don't know anyone from any other school who regularly wears a class ring. A great many, but not all my old Clemson buddies do wear their rings, as does my sister who graduated in the early 80s.

Yes, I too had the raised Onyx face ring since never had HS ring..

And yes it cracked & later stolen..so ordered typical flat "plastic" looking face (much higher $440 replacement cost in 1984), and no problems with it cracking.

Lost that bad boy last year.. And month later I cleaned out the clothes washer-dryer seal and it stared up at me with a big "C" smile..or should I say I smiled & yelled since that find saved me about $1800 !

GoTiGERS!

I wish rings were that cheap! Bought mine for $350 bucks back in the 90's when Jostens made them. Lost it two years ago and my finger still misses that ring. I looked at buying a replacement, but I don't have $900 bucks to spend on a new one. I paid for the warranty/replacement plan and all that, but Jostens has no record of it anymore, and Balfour won't pick it up anyway. Oh well. Word to the wise. Do NOT lose that ring! I think about it every day.

We didn't have a ring ceremony either. That would have been neat.

Yep, '95 graduate here. My parents paid for my ring as a graduation present so I'm not sure exactly how much it was, but I think it was around $350 as you say.

I see other class rings worn here and there, but it's very unusual. I've had random strangers comment to me that they wish their college's class ring was as nice as ours.

it is interesting to me. I see military rings, eagle scout rings, free mason rings, but rarely ever see a college class ring. Almost every Clemson Man (and many women) I see have a ring. My brother still hasnt gotten his but in the two years from when I got mine for $375 (2005) and when he got his, it tripled in price.

ring ceremony

I believe the ring ceremony is required in order to get your ring. I graduated in 2012 and the year after was when they implemented that rule.

I wear mine every day. Since my high school ring was super cheap (less than $100), my parents agreed to let me go all out on the Clemson ring, knowing it was a big deal. So I got the women's dinner ring, real 10K white gold (sometimes I wish I got yellow, gold, but love it just the same) and the real onyx stone, ~$500. Other than needing to be cleaned on the regular, no issues!

Herf Jones was the ring maker.

I have been stopped before with people asking/knowing about the Clemson ring! Always a good conversation piece.

Since the price of gold is dropping

Aug 12, 2015, 9:28 AM

maybe the cost of the ring show drop some too.
