45 Independence Days ago......

Jul 4, 2015, 10:05 AM

there was a gathering of musicians in the Southeast like never before or since in the tiny community of Byron, Ga., (not far from Macon) at an event known historically as the 2nd Atlanta Pop Festival. The celebration lasted for nearly a week and many crowd estimates put it larger than fabled Woodstock which took place the summer of 69.

The festival was "hosted" by the full cast of the original Allman Brothers--who played several times---and included over 30 bands--with a legendary performance by Jimi Hendrix---one of his final live shows.

There was miles of long hair, naked bodies galore in the oppressive heat, and forest fire billows of smoke from the enraptured audience.....and a LOT of wide-eyed Southern kids who'd never even imagined such a scene

The music was simply phenominal...for a full list of performers, google it up.
