Jake Long has had a remarkable season of recovery. The 5th year senior has a 1.99 ERA and opponents are batting only .202 against him. Tomorrow he has the opportunity to virtually guarantee his home state school a trip to NCAA Tournament. I couldn't be happier that he will be the one stepping up on the hill tomorrow.
I also feel that it's a blessing that we are not playing Sunday. The NCAA Tournament starts Friday and everyone will be fresh and available. The 3 weekend starters will all have 9 days of rest when they next start. If we'd have played Sunday, I've got to believe that we would have used Matthew for possibly 5 innings because we only took him 106 pitches on Wed. The scenario that we are in offers us tremendous opportunity for post season success. The ACC Tourney is not our goal. It's simply a stepping stone on our path. This team is capable of much more.
