Clemson Rugby head coach wins National COY honors

May 3, 2015, 9:43 AM

Clemson Head Coach Justin Hickey was just names the Varsity Cup Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches, which include Jack Clark and David Smith who have won a combined 28 of the last 29 national championships.

Hickey is currently a graduate student at Clemson and is the paid head coach of the team. 5 of of the top 15 funded programs in the country have fired their coaches this past season and Justin will be a hot commodity on the coaching market and likely to demand a salary as high as $50,000 from better funded programs.

If you want to help keep the reining Coach of the Year in Clemson please consider a donation to the Clemson Rugby Foundation: http://clemsonrugbyfoundation.org/ - The CRF funds the club rugby club, much like IPTAY funds the Varsity sports.

Here is part of the article and a link to the rest of it.

Salt Lake City, UT—In lead up to today’s Penn Mutual Varsity Cup National Rugby Championship, the coaches and administrators of the participant schools met for a series of coordination and development meetings to review the 2015 competition and set plans for the future.

Along with these coordination meetings, the coaches named Clemson University head coach, Justin Hickey, as the Penn Mutual Varsity Cup 2015 Coach of the Year.

Hickey, who was named to the USA Rugby Collegiate All American coaching staff along with Varsity Cup fellow head coach Gavin Hickie from Dartmouth, has quickly taken Clemson from a mid-tier collegiate rugby program in the Atlantic Coast Rugby League (ACRL) to the 2013 and 2014 champions. [?IMG]

Hickey was also named the ACRL Coach of the Year in both of those championship seasons.
