very true. didnt see Lou in person but did see Ray. Very solid backrunning behind less than stellar lines

Both great players. I was in school with Ray and he was ...

one of the few football players I ever saw lifting weights. Our All American tackle that same time period could barely bench press 300 lbs.

It's incredible that Cordeleone didn't get in years ago. I'd say that Yauger is a borderline HOF inductee, but it seems like a lot in that category are gettin in the last few years.

Ray Yauger was 1st team all-ACC in 1969

I watched him play. He was a very good runner, but a lot of the credit goes to he linemen he ran behind, which included Wayne Mass and Harry O.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Think Mass & Harry O were just before Rays time.

Apr 28, 2015, 4:11 PM

1966 was their last season of playing......

None the less since when did we penalize players for playing with other great players?

Yauger never started when Mass and Olzewski were here.

Apr 28, 2015, 4:16 PM [ in reply to Re: Ray Yauger was 1st team all-ACC in 1969 ]

Yauger was a back up to Buddy Gore and then got a chance to shine when Gore got hurt in 1968. By then Mass and Olzewski were gone.

Mass and Olzewski were there from 1964 - 1968, but of ..

course couldn't play on the varsity as Frershmen. Buddy Gore came that same year and was the starting back most of that time - at least his last couple of years - a stud. I remember Ray as an underclassman and I saw him in several games, so that had to be in 68, the year I graduated. Because of going into there Marine Corps, I did not see Tiger football for several years. Harry O was about 5'10 - 130 Lbs. and Mass was 6-4" - 240 (huge at the time). The weight lifting club had a better weight room than the football players, so some would occasionally come by. Ray was a regular, Mass came once in a while - never say Harry O!

Mass & Olszewski both graduated in 1967 ... (link)

Apr 28, 2015, 10:24 PM

They were freshmen in 1964 and played 1965. 1966, & 1967.

Gore was a year behind Mass & Olszewski.

Yauger was two years behind Gore.

Did Cordileone graduate?

Apr 28, 2015, 12:58 PM [ in reply to Lou Cordeleone and Ray Yauger Snubbed again.... ]

That's part of the criteria, although it can be waived by the nominating committee.

Re: Did Cordileone graduate?

Apr 28, 2015, 3:58 PM

It must get waived fairly often ... there are a significant number of HOF inductees who don't have a college degree from Clemson or anywhere else.
