Gerald D. McRath, a defensive teams graduate assistant in the University of North Carolina football program and former Tennessee Titans player, was charged Monday with driving while impaired, Durham arrest records show.
McRath, 28, also had his driver’s license revoked for 30 days, a standard procedure after a DWI arrest.
Durham police found McRath in an idling car stopped on a service road that parallels Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard near Garrett Road about 1 a.m., police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said. He appeared to be asleep, she said.
McRath was freed on $1,500 bail and scheduled for a court hearing on April 20.
McRath is listed on the university’s website as a non-degree graduate assistant in the College of Arts and Sciences assigned to the football office.
He did not appear Tuesday on the football staff directory, however.
McRath played for two years with the Tennessee Titans in the National Football League after attending the University of Southern Mississippi.
