Dan Radakovich meeting
Mar 30, 2015, 9:58 AM
|
|
Just wanted to let you guys and gals know that at some point this afternoon before or after spring practice we get a chance to sit down with AD Dan Radakovich. We are going to get a tour of some of the things they have done in the WestZone and the press box area of Death Valley, but we also get a Q&A session. Yes, I plan on asking about Jack Leggett. But what other burning - and serious - questions would you ask if you were there? I will only be on the board a few minutes because today is packed and I have to get to Clemson, but feel free to tmail or email me with your questions. Or you can leave them here and I will try and sort through them at one point.

I would ask....

if his last two hires in women's basketball and volleyball (which he delegated to subbordinates rather than handling himself) is an indication of the very low priority level placed on non-revenue sports by the Administration and if the same lack of attention can be expected when the time comes to replace the head baseball coach.

In his mind, who are the top athletic programs in the ACC?
Mar 30, 2015, 10:06 AM

It appears that top to bottom (other than football of course), Clemson is at best the 3rd/4th best AD in the conference. What's the plan to fix this other than breaking ground on another construction project?
Also, how did Mississippi State jump Michigan State in the final committee poll coming off a bye week and a loss?

How do you figure that?
Womens Bball requires uniforms and a ball and 15 scholarships max....
Facility is already paid for with Mens Basketball.
Womens Softball is more players more equipment and a separate facility that you have to upkeep.

just seems like we could be pretty competitive and softball can attract a lot more fans than womens bball can in most cases I would assume.
Idk, I mean if we're gonna lose money on either, why not choose the one we can be better at in conference? And be more interesting to watch?

The NCAA would require Clemson to build a softball facility
Mar 30, 2015, 10:41 AM
[ in reply to Womens softball is not nearly as much of a money ] |

that is on-par with the men's baseball facility. Some of the newer collegiate softball facilities in the Southeast cost upwards of $20 million and that doesn't include the cost of scholarships, uniforms, equipment, travel, and coaches salaries. It would be an unbelievably expensive endeavor.

Ask why Brownell was allowed to pass on the CBI again despite us needing practice and experience.

Hardly. We need practice and experience. VCU, Oregon, and Pitt all won the CBI and used it to springboard into the NCAA within 2 seasons. We returned 4 starters and could not make the NIT. If our team has zero motivation to compete, then we need some personnel changes. It doesn't make sense to pass on any opportunity that can better us.

Armadillos have never been among the cuddly creatures routinely included in petting zoos, but federal researchers offered a compelling reason to avoid contact with the armored animals altogether: They are a source of leprosy infections in humans.

any thought ever been given to doing away with all mens programs except football. title 9 can be left untouched and in compliance and we could have more money to put into football salaries and facilities.

Jack, as usual he would do it his way and reject the pool stick and insist that Brownell could only use the small end of the cue stick. Jack would use a baseball bat and accuse Brownell of cheating bc he wouldn't stand still and was using a heated half of the cue stick!!!

Concessions

I would like to know when Clemson will get on board with adding some great concession food. A lot of football venue's I have gone to have some local business flavors to support and would be great to enjoy while being at Death Valley. Something needs to change.

There is a smoking pig in death valley and doug kingsmore....The standard concession food is on par otherwise, there's also subway, chick-fil-a, and dippin dots....I think anything else would be a bit much given the amount of tailgating.

I do tailgate but I never leave at halftime. I feel that should be banned...but at times it is nice to get something and the selections and drink prices are very high.

What were the reasons for the budget reduction of the LJ renovation? Why was the new Football facility unable to wait 1 year in order for the LJ budget and scope not to take a hit?

The buyout might as well be $100 million since Clemson has absolutely no intention of exercising it. It's completely irrelevant.

To contend for the ACC title on a regular basis, or at least occasionally, or to be mid-pack on a regular basis and be happy with that since we are a "football school"?

suck so bad right now, and that makes me a coot. Geez you're stupid.
Or why dont you even choose to debate the point? Mens and Women's b-ball suck, baseball sucks and needs a new coach desperately. Overall the entire Ahtletic Department has been in a slide for some time now. Clemson is now middle of the pack or worse in almost everything, except football and soccer.

Probably too late...
What was rationale for extending Brownell? Why spend $62M on coliseum? Huge mistake. Was D Rad's spend on arenas at USC and GT a good ROI? Answer: Nope.
Why are our track facilities so poor compared to say Alabama???Just went to meet there this weekend. Track has won more ACC Championships than any other CU sport in recent years compared to say Baseball, Soccer etc etc and they get $$$.Don't say they are revenue sports....please! Our indoor and outdoor facilities are outdated and by NCAA/Conference guidelines unable to hold Conference Championships/Regionals.
