With all the negativity with Leggett I wanted to say

Mar 28, 2015, 6:09 PM

That Bill Wilhelm was not the most popular man on campus when I was there . Maybe because he was a bit gruff .

I went to many baseball games back then (students FREE), a great way to take a few hours off from school .

Then I looked up his record.

1161-536-10 5 trips to the College World Series.

Okay, maybe that was a bit understated

Wilhelm was gruff, yes, but he was respected by people because he treated them with respect. Leggett? Not so much

Walls are generally inoffensive and serve a purpose.

here. Bill forgot more baseball than Jack will ever know. He did not mince words and would tell it like it is.

Sorry if I was unclear

I was stating that Bill's record was impressive and winning seemed easy back then (surely was not).

The Tigers were dominant on the diamond

There is a difference between gruff and arrogance.

Wilhelm was gruff with those that were no- serious. Ask those that played for him what kind of guy he was. He was fair and easy to talk with as regular students can attest to-as they recall their Clemsom academic days before they became more distant fans.

Wilhelm was like Howard and Ford, a tough but fair SOB that

Mar 28, 2015, 8:40 PM

was turning boys into men, on and off the field. Many that hated them as players loved and respected them as men later in life.
