I agree! His leaving has had a long term effect on Clemson Basketball fortunes. He could have done great things here no matter what he said, he didn't want to face tobacco road every year!

Was very similar to OP. Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Purnell mandated they leave due to their recklessness in regards to their marital vows.

He took on the powers of the ACC, and our leadership did not back him. Instead, they sent
him to Greensboro to work it out with Saint Dean and ACC commish......some support.

IF, HUGE IF, our admin and BOT will give him the support that they did not before(and have never done for any coach) I would love to have him.... without that support we will never get where we should be!

in the ACC while he was Tiger HC.....he took on Dean Smith and didn't flinch at the powers of the conference. But apparently he was unwilling to take on Clemson's admin and BOT and build the kind of facilities and basketball tradition at Clemson so many of us have wanted for decades. He could've had a job for life probably. Apparently the challenge of changing the culture at Clemson to INCLUDE basketball was more daunting than playing unc, Duke, NCSt, etc on the court.
There were reportedly other, extraneous issues as well, but nothing that couldn't have been overcome if he thought Clemson would have gone the extra mile to make Tiger basketball an ACC power...at least, IMO
