KornCOOT's comment on Denzel Johnson

#STRecruiting: USC lets Johnson knows he’s a take if he gets qualified

February 13, 2015 by Phil Kornblut

USC has jumped back into the recruiting ring for AC Flora WR/DB Denzel Johnson. Johnson remains uncommitted and unsigned while awaiting the result of his ACT test last weekend. He’s expecting the score to be reported in about a week and a half.
Prior to National Signing Day, Johnson dropped USC because the Gamecocks told him to go to junior college first. But in the last week Johnson said USC recruiter and receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. contacted him and let him know that if he gets the grades and the score, he would like him at USC. And Johnson said he now has the Gamecocks back on his list.
“They are in it because I like South Carolina,” Johnson said. “He (Spurrier Jr.) was like once I get my grades right I can come on a visit and see how I like it and then go from there.”
Johnson said if he becomes qualified he would take his official visit to USC before making a final decision.
Johnson, of course, nearly committed to Clemson in January after his official visit there but the grades issue put that on hold. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has kept in regular contact and has made it clear to Johnson he’s a take for the Tigers if he qualifies. Johnson said he heard from the Tigers on Thursday.
Johnson also took official visits to Towson, Massachusetts and SC State and is still considering those three.

Gee, that's amazing recruiting, there. Tell him to go JUCO. Then, a week before he gets his test results back, call him back and tell him you've reconsidered...and then - and only then - can he come on a visit (if he makes the score) and they'll take it from there.

In the meantime, Dabo Swinney has been in "regular contact"...and Johnson has already taken a visit to Clemson, and all that remains is for him to qualify and he can sign. In other words, Clemson is about 4-5 steps ahead, at this point in the game.

You know Denzel Johnson probably feels like he has to keep his options open, but you figure that left him shaking his head.

I think they know they are behind. So you act like your offer is so much better than clemson. Like Clemson isn't on there level. May work but I doubt it.

Sorry, but IMHO if he takes a visit to SC, Dabo should pull the offer. Dabo promised a spot if he qualifies and is holding it open while SC told him to FO unless he got a qualifying test score.

Almost tend to agree with you. I don't see him taking that visit. If he does then that is were he wants to be anyway.

No , we are not on the coot's level . We walloped them 35-17 on the field , and finished 15 teams better than them in national recruiting rankings ...so I guess the levels the Denzel Johnson needs to consider are those ...the obviously disproportionately in Clemson's favor ones.

Well I hope he doesn't do anything dumb. He is a baller and we could use him.

The we really should get rid of Ray Ray and Deon based on your thinking. Denzel never even committed. I don't have a problem with him checking out his (very limited) options. It is obvious we are the best place for him to be. I hope when he gets his scores, he has the requisite scores, and then shuns the Coots and signs with us. I think he can be a contributor for us down the road.

Must be nice not to have to be concerned with the 25/85 rule
