Ranking men's tennis players based on weekend performance

Jan 28, 2015, 2:47 PM

lost to memphis 4-2 and then to Wake 4-1 but there were a few bright spots.

Ranking the players based on their performance this weekend:

1. Austin Ansari
def Patrick Mayer, Memphis 6-0 6-2
led Skander Mansouri, Wake 3-6 7-5 1-0, match abandoned
- a dominating win vs Memphis and then was leading Mansouri in the 3rd when match was abandoned. Positive weekend for him and a good start to life at #3.

2. Hunter Harrington
def #79 Connor Glennon, Memphis 6-4 7-5
lost to Noah Rubin, Wake 6-1 6-2
- was beaten badly by Rubin but that will happen to a lot of players this year. He got a nice straight set win over Glennon in the first match which at least gave Clemson the chance to win.

3. Hampton Drake
led Kai Lemke, Memphis 4-6 7-5 2-1, match abandoned
lost to Christian Seraphim, Wake 7-5 6-3
- was leading the 3rd set vs Memphis when the match was clinched. It would have come down to his court had Sanon held on. Lost vs wake forest however.

4. Daffra Sanon
lost to Shakeel Manji, Memphis 6-3 0-6 6-4
tied with #102 Maksim Kan, Wake 4-6 6-3
- had an extremely streaky match vs Memphis and in the end came up short and ultimately cost Clemson the match which is why he is ranked lower than Drake. He was leading Kan in the 3rd set which is a positive sign. It gave hope that #6 won't be a tomato can this year like it was last year.

5. Alejandro Augusto
lost to #23 Andrew Watson, Memphis 7-5 6-4
lost to #12 Romain Bogaerts, Wake 6-2 6-2
- played two great players but was beaten soundly in each match

6. Luke Johnson
lost to Ryan Peniston, Memphis 6-0 6-3
lost to #52 Jonathan Ho, Wake 7-5 6-4
- most disappointing player vs Memphis, and then lost vs Wake Forest in straight sets as well. Not a good weekend for the junior from Leeds.
