I know this has nothing to do with anything here, but I need

Dec 22, 2014, 10:07 AM

some advice..

There is a woman here at work who often uses "GFY" in her Instant Messages and team emails.

She thinks it stands for "Good For You".

So we get messages such as:
"Shana helped stop a $24,000 fraud run. Shana- GFY!!"

Should I emabarass her by letting her know???

On one hand I feel as though you should let it rock for obvious reasons. On the other hand if she sends that to your boss? That'd be bad lol.

guess you have to use it for what it is intended.

she is a "happy" person, probably most people see it that way. But what do I know.

I'm not up on all this lingo stuff

Dec 22, 2014, 11:16 AM

But why would you allow a person to harm and embarrass themself endlessly in the name of not embarrassing them one single time?

So let's say if you see a person and their zipper is open, you just let them walk around like this or do you tell them? It's the same question.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yup. That is what I'm struggling with.

Dec 22, 2014, 11:18 AM

I'm not sure about the zipper thing... If I didn't care for the person, I very well may let them walk around without letting them know.

But the email thing is very funny. Everybody in the office gets a good laugh.

Apparently I owe a few people an apology for some terse replies to recent communications.

Well maybe it was the culture but GFY only meant one thing when I was in the military. I used it quite a bit in radio communications when talking to pilots and other ground stations to confirm we had friendlies on the other end or set up an abort code for air to ground strikes.

"Falcon 6-1, Antidote 2-3. Authenticate Golf-Foxtrot-Yankee."

"Antidote 2-3, Falcon-6-1. I authenticate....(they caught it) Delta."

The old Warthog pilots would catch it quick and get a good laugh. The younger F-16 pilots took a minute and weren't quite as impressed with my attempt at radio humor. SMH, they could KMA IMHO.
