players should be able to play on both sides of the ball when the game situation demands that the best 11 players be on the field and that there is no way such a preposterous idea should ever be considered again in the history of modern civilization, I present to you Exhibit A:

Ending platooning would increase player safety

Back in the early fifties, before platooning was allowed, football players rarely weighed more than 250 lbs. During the time of limited substitution, a 300 lb lineman would not have the endurance to play both ways. Clemson players of that era played offense and defense. My father played blocking back on offense and linebacker on defense in the early fifties.

When the Broncos first landed Champ Bailey, they lined him up at receiver a few games.

It really didn't work out, but I always admired that them for trying to get a spark in the Brian Griese-led offense at the time.

Can Jayron play tight end? Can Reader line up at FB on the goal line? I don't know, but it would be cool to see if we thought those guys brought something to the table that others in that situation don't.
