FWIW: Oklahoma Team Stats

Dec 18, 2014, 10:02 AM

Their Offense is pretty good, especially on the ground:

Total O: 20th (481 ypg) (no one we've played this year is higher than GT (22))

Passing O: 82nd (211 ypg) (behind FSU (14), USuCk (21), UNCheat (24), GA St (25--yeah, seriously), Clemson (42), and U of L (51))

Their pre-season "Heisman Candidate" Trevor Knight has been injured for a couple of games but he's struggled much more than anyone expected. Of course, Katy Perry might distract me too...

Rushing O: 9th (268 ypg) (behind only GT (3)).

Their Freshman RB (who is hobbled but expected to play) has over 1500 rushing yards this year and is the NCAA record-holder for most rushing yards in a single game (427).

Their Defense is very mediocre (granted, they've had to play teams like TCU, Baylor, K St but still...):

Total D: 54th (382 ypg) (behind Clemson (1), UofL (6), BC (12), UGA (18), Syracuse (29), Wake (42), NC State (50), FSU (52))

Pass D: 118th (272 ypg) (behind literally everyone we've played this year; there are only 128 'D-1' teams)

Rush D: 10th (109 ypg) (behind UofL (3), BC (4), and Clemson (7))

I was surprised by how good their rush D is statistically but also surprised how good UofL and BC were--both teams we were able to run on in crunch time.

They're also 44th in sacks, 45th in INTs, and 84th in fumble recoveries.

I like this game because it matches strength to strength and weakness to weakness (not unlike the Coot game--although we won't have #4 for this one). I think if our D-line can continue to show up, stuff the run, and harass Knight (a la USuCk single-season-passing-record-holder Dylan Thompson), and we can get our running game going, and Stoudt has time to throw against one of the worst "Big 5" passing defenses, we should win this one. "IF."

GO TIGERS!!!

Their rush D is skewed.

They played a bunch of pass happy teams who were able to throw all over them, so they didn't really need to run. Hence their 118 pass defense rating.

Re: Their rush D is skewed. This is what I suspected.

IF we can be somewhat balanced , we will be fine.
1 or 2 long completions will work wonders.
Fingers crossed on that.

In addition , about their running game - Texas was their stiffest defense - and they won that game on 2 non offensive TD's....

Per usual....the fish rots from the head....so goes Cole...so goes us.
