We'd maybe be #1 rivalry except GOV cancelled our game from 1902-07 b/c

Of Clemson Cadets affixed bayonets onto their rifles during a fight and chased the Coots back to COLa.

Maybe it was over our possibly losing OR just mad since they had slept couple night at the fairgrounds in pup tents! LOL.

GoTiGERS...win #66 in DV and make it 24 more wins since 1896!

Bill, actually Carolina students were carrying around a sign

Nov 26, 2014, 6:52 PM

that showed a chicken standing atop a tiger, which infuriated the cadets. Fights broke out, and the Clemson Corps fixed bayonets and marched to the Horseshoe.

There, Carolina students met them with several students carrying pistols. The confrontation was broken up by a coach, perhaps, much to both side's relief.

Fearing future trouble, the series was called off for several years, then restarted...after calmer heads decided that bayonets and pistols weren't a particularly good mix at the games. Might be why brass knuckles became the vogue for a number of years................lol

And people talk about how bad it is today....sheesh

looks like things were heated back then as well. Just a lot more cameras and news crews to catch such events these days.
