Clemson's goal should be the Orange Bowl
Oct 31, 2014, 8:17 AM
|
|
and it's still on the table!! FSU win out, Clemson Win out...FSU goes to the playoff, Clemson goes to the Orange Bowl. Playing and potentially winning that game for Clemson would be a huge deal considering the experience it would give the younger guys on the team and it would help build the hunger for bigger things going into the off season.
Go get it Tigers!

If the ACC Champion....
Oct 31, 2014, 8:45 AM
|
|
is not selected for the four-team College Football Playoff, that team will play in the Orange Bowl (Miami, FL) against Notre Dame or a team from the SEC or Big 10.
In years when the ACC champion qualifies for the four-team national semifinals, then the next highest-ranked ACC team would play in the Orange Bowl.
In years when the Orange Bowl is hosting one of the College Football Playoff semifinal games (e.g. 2016), the ACC champion will play in a host bowl -- either the Fiesta Bowl or the Chick-fil-A Bowl. The selection of the ACC's opponent will be based on securing the highest-ranked team in the final standings available from either the Big Ten, the SEC or Notre Dame. The Big Ten and SEC are each guaranteed at least three appearances over the 12-year life of the deal. Notre Dame has no minimum guarantee and may only appear in the game a maximum of two times.

The Orange Bowl doesn't pick the teams anymore...

.. the selection committee picks the teams for that game, for what it's worth. It could make a difference.

That's not entirely correct....

The ACC maintains its tie-in with the Orange Bowl.
Consequently, if the NO 1 team from the ACC isn't in the College Football Playoff, the No. 1 team from the ACC automatically goes to the Orange Bowl and would face a tea mfor mthe $EC or the Big 10.
In years when the ACC champion qualifies for the four-team national semifinals, then the next highest-ranked ACC team would play in the Orange Bowl.
In years when the Orange Bowl is hosting one of the College Football Playoff semifinal games, the ACC champion would play in a host bowl (either the Fiesta Bowl or the Chick-fil-A Bowl).
Notre Dame is eligible for any ACC bowl tie-in as long as they are within one game of the team eligible for the slot.

Good points. I was referring more to the 3-loss chances mentioned above. Is the Orange Bowl locked to an ACC team no matter what the records are?

If Clemson has three losses, I am thinking that ND takes the ACC spot in the Orange Bowl vs. another at-large?

An acc team this year
If fsu goes to the playoffs they will have to take the next best acc team no matter what thier record is.
Nd is eligible for any acc tie in bowl game except the ob. They are eligible to play in the ob against an acc team if the ob picks them over a sec or big team.

Ok, it simply meant that

the OB is still in reach for this team and that is what I expect us to get to. By saying the teams goal should be, it means because we are not in the Conference Championship or in the playoff the OB goal is a good one.
No one said we wanted a lower tier bowl
smh

Clemson has lots of goals
Oct 31, 2014, 1:32 PM

Winning the ACC is one of the biggest. Unfortunately last nights result probably ended our chance at that.
So yes, now the OB is our goal. It requires both us and FSU to win out. Any loss by either and it prolly won't happen.
Winning out covers the highest goal on my book for the rest of the year...
