Texas to pay players $10,000

Oct 22, 2014, 4:10 PM

And so it begins... (if this is true)

$10,000 annually to ALL athletes (even rowing). That's a $6 million hit. Obviously the majority of universities cannot follow. It def opens the can.

This becomes a huge recruiting advantage as well. There goes the amateur college football world as we know it.

This is very disheartening if it's true***

if he's truly adopted the culture then I might consider him a Texan, otherwise he's just a transplant.

Ole Miss pays more than that now, and Sakerlina also gives their players free hotel rooms. I would have thought Texas could pony up more than the SEC bottom feeders.

most Universities will have little incentive to tolerate athletes that struggle to perform. This is going to screw players who develop slowly. It's not all about the schools and football programs.
