He was. He was selected#1 by the Chargers who loved his arm strength. Too bad the #2 pick was some guy named Payton Manning. But as far as worst #1 picks I'd say Leaf, JaMarcus Russell, and Clowney.

I don't believe there's been a more selfish player. Just my opinion.

Ryan Leaf was the number 2 pick. Payton Manning was number one that year.

Wow really? I mean look, I don't think they guy's going to be nearly as good as everyone thought and I was definitely sick of the endless hype and press the ##### got because of him, but maybe let him play some games first? And to think he's the worst ever? Were you born in 2010 or something? Tim Couch, Jamarcus Russell, Jeff George, Ki-Jana Carter, Courtney Brown, David Carr, and Sam Bradford were all drafted #1, paid huge amounts of money, and expected to save their respective teams and flamed out within a couple of years. Sometimes members of this board are blind to the fact they're just as dumb as the SC fans they make fun of and just happened to be wearing different colored glasses.

Meanwhile, our golden child DE Bowers, has 6.5 sacks in 4 years and just got suspended for using PEDs. If I were him, I'd try to get a refund.

to prepare for the season. His condition at the begining of last season was a big red flag to many, but his raw talent still got him the overall #1 pick, even though his junior stats were very pedestrian. Raw ability can carry you through HS and sometimes college, but NOT the NFL. True, he may not be the biggest bust, but all signs over the last 14 months point to a potential monumental bust, in line with many you listed in your post.

Clowney will be fine. No reason to hate on the guy, he is no Swearinger. Once he is healthy, the Texans will have the toughest D in the league. They will still have the 31st best OL and 28th best QB though which will keep them in the back of the pack. They should try to trade him since Watt is on a megacontract.
