Top 5 teams - Top Level Competition Circle

Oct 20, 2014, 7:05 AM

MS - Alabama. No other teams. Will play no power 5 out of conference teams.

FSU - Oklahoma State. Clemson. Notre Dame. Done with the toughest part of their schedule, but Louisville is still a hurdle.

MS State - Auburn. LSU. Will play no power 5 out of conference teams.

Alabama - WVU. MS (a loss). Will play LSU, MS State, Auburn.

Auburn - Kansas State. LSU. MS State. Will play MS, Georgia, Alabama.

Now that SEC West has branded themselves as the best, the fact that MS and MS State play no out of conference power 5 teams isn't being factored in.

In fact, the only data point that exists is that Alabama and Auburn are better than WVU and KState, respectively. Which means that the SEC-West is better than the Big 12. FSU beat OK State, so by that logic, the ACC is better than the Big 12 too. Big Ten? Pac 12? ACC? Well, better to let the brand beat teams from those conferences.

Next up - a look at the non-conference games played by the SEC - and why, however weak some ACC teams are, the total schedules aren't that different.
