When we speak of this I give honor to Marion Fagan.

Sep 20, 2014, 8:28 AM

Marion was one of the most intelligent people I've ever known and a friend of my youth. As young adults we often watched sports on TV together at his house while our wives shopped or tinkered in the kitchen. Back in the 1970's there were no remotes controls so nothing to mute the sound either.

Marion didn't like listening to the commercials so he wired a switch to his TV speaker. He strung the wires across the living room and glued the switch to a glass soft drink bottle. Many hours we spent talking while watching the games without sound during the commercials.

Marion passed at a wrongful age decades ago. Often I remember him when I pick up the remote and especially when I'm watching ESPiN and I hit the mute. The first mute wasn't his only invention either.

Marion sounds like a very interesting character.***
