Sep 16, 2014, 12:42 PM

draws.

players from schools all over the south competed. The singles were split into 3 divisions based on player quality. So the best players were in d1 then secondary players in d2 and tertiary in d3.

my personal recap

Sep 16, 2014, 12:43 PM

Athens review: Ranking the players based on performance in Athens this weekend..

1. Hampton Drake
def Benjamin Salle, Lander: 6-3 6-4
def Jose Gracia, Florida State 6-4 6-4
def Aaron Gomez, Virginia Tech 6-3 6-3
def Eric Diaz, Georgia 3-6 6-4 7-5
lost to Michael Kay, Georgia Tech 7-6(7) 7-6(7)

Good opening weekend from Drake. Beat lower line-up ACC players and Diaz showing that he can fit into the bottom of the Clemson line-up rather well. This was the most positive result of the weekend for Clemson.

2. Christian Harris
def Stefan Burnett, FAU 3-6 6-3 6-1
def Luke Morland, Gwinnet 6-4 6-4
def Garrett Gordon, CofC 7-5 7-6(1)
def Lachlan McPhee, Gwinnett 6-3 6-2
def Baker Newman, Vanderbilt 0-6 6-1 6-4

Yes it was the Division 3 singles flights but its still a good showing for Harris to take the title in it. He likely will not play this year anyway but this at least boosts him a little bit higher in the pecking order.

3. Daffra Sanon
def Thibaut Leoussoff, Lander 7-6(4) 3-6 6-2
def Paul Cisti, Charlotte 6-0 6-1
def Sebastian Yllera, 6-4 3-6 7-5
lost to Peter Bertran, 7-6(3) 6-3

The win over Yllera is a good one. Stringing some wins together is a good sign for bottom of the line-up play. The loss to Bertran is not a bad one, he is a string freshman player.

4. Austin Ansari
def Andrew Dromsky, Tennessee 6-1 6-0
lost to Wayne Montgomery, Geeorgia 6-1 6-2

Good easy win over Dromsky. A good sign because Ansari often goes through spurts and lulls in his matches and has a a lot of matches end wth 6-1 1-6 6-2 type of scores. But that was a complete match against a decent player. The blowout loss to Montgomery isn't bad as he blasted almost every player in the draw and will be playing higher in the line-up than will Ansari.

5. Luke Johnson
lost to Pablo Gor, Armstrong Atlantic 6-4 6-4
def Florian Nicoud, Virginia Tech 6-3 6-4

Looks like a bad loss in round 1 but Gor then went on to defeat Rakitt and Nunez as well. The win over Nicoud is decent because he was a significant player in the lower part of the VT line-up.

that's the top 5.

Harrington, Augusto and Dudley did not play here for unknown reasons.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no he is a senior this year

Sep 17, 2014, 12:12 AM

he, Harrington and Dudley did not play in this event for some reason

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks, I just found it odd he wasn't on the lineup

Sep 17, 2014, 12:30 AM

And ideas why? Just resting them?...

Thanks again. Appreciate your efforts.

I'm thinking just rest for them

with the national Tulsa event coming up. I find it unlikely that they are all injured.

I also find it frustrating that the 2014-2015 roster is not yet on clemsontigers.com.
