Hootie and the Blowfish sent flowers and a get-well card to the family of the man who was sucker punched on King Street earlier this month.
Billy and Ashley Schilling of Bluffton on Thursday got flowers and a note that read "Thinking of you Wishing you a speedy recovery Hootie and the Blowfish."
The Schillings attended a Hootie and the Blowfish concert in Charleston the night Billy Schilling was attacked. A friend of the family went to school with the band's drummer, which also might explain the card and flowers, according to Ashley Schilling's father, Scott Kirkpatrick.
The couple was walking along King Street after the concert Aug. 9 when a man insulted Ashley. Billy said something to him and the man turned around and hit him in the face, sending him to the sidewalk and fracturing his skull.
James Hutton, 27, of Greenville, a former college football fullback, was arrested and charged with
second-degree assault and battery by mob. He was released from the Charleston County jail on $20,000 bail.
Billy Schilling has been unable to work since the accident. An online fund for his medical bills has raised almost $4,000 so far.

Hootie and the Blowfish have a great fondation that does a lot of good things in the state of South Carolina for children. Darius Rucker is a very generous and good person. There is nothing wrong with him or his band sending this note.

I think the humor in this is that nobody in the AD would have considered doing this. Agree, a very classy act.

There is not a thing wrong with what Hootie did there , very decent .

agree that Hootie and Blowfish are good guys and are very charitable-- it was a nice gesture

LOL I caught that too. He was mentioned as USuC fullback in the original story of when he assaulted that guy and the comments section was full of irate coot fans angry the P&C mentioned he played ball for them. I guess they got a bunch of angry hatemails/letters as well.
