How come we always seem to be so much tighter on recruitng

Jul 29, 2014, 7:23 AM

numbers than other schools?

It appears USuC is about to sign another class of 25+ kids. Most SEC schools seem to take 25-30 kids each year despite the SEC bylaws forbiding oversigning.

How does that work? Do we just graduate more players? Is Clemson more loyal? Do players stay longer more often?

Or is there a dirty little secret in the SEC, the shotgun approach to recruiting; oversign every year and run off the under-performers?

simple really. dabo, unlike a lot of coaches does not run off players just because of pt. you do the math. a kid can stay in school 5 years. you can have 85 on ship but can sign 25 in one year. 5 times 25 does not equal 85. just this spring superior bragged about how young they were with 10 seniors or less yet they will probably sign more than 25. once again, do the math. how many kids does superior have to run off just to get to 85.

25 x 5 = 125. 125-85 = 40.

Out of that 40:

5 fail to qualify.
10 leave early or don't pursue a 5th year.
5 flunk out.

That would leave 20 too many.

So basically Spurrier has to run off roughly 5 players each year.

Coots beating the hell out of that fail to qualify part of the equation. May be beating the hell out of all of them.

I cant see how any parent would allow that schools coaches in their house. They are saying basically 20% of our signees will never set foot on campus. If my kid was being recruited and they showed up, I think I would just laugh at their face before slamming the door.

In the case of the coots, they lost a big chunk of their class last year to kids who did not qualify. Which really means it was a small and mediocre class. This year is crucial for them so they're stock piling a bunch of players. Most of them average.

There are coaches that THINK they can win with brute...They are as stupid as the brutes they recruit - SMARTS wins. Get the talent that has the brains AND talent...Trophies follow. Or Banners...

Didn't they sign 2 JUCO players?

Jul 29, 2014, 8:58 PM

How does that work and which class do they count towards?
