SEC is not overrated, if anything it's underrated. The problem is how much time ESPN spends talking about it. Gets old to me also

The only "vote" that counts is on the field. We have two top SEC teams on our schedule: UGA and Carolina. Get the job done on the field. Leave the blustering to our opponents.

because for many of those losses, it is comparing apples to oranges. The entrance requirements for ACC teams versus SEC teams was different. In fact, usc left the ACC for that reason. You wanted to join the "Dumb Dumb" conference and finally did.
This year is the last year of the present recruiting requirements. You better hope the SEC gets lots of players in. 2016 marks much more stringent requirements and the "Dumb Dumb" league will have difficulty getting their typical players in. By the way, will you get your 8 on the borderline in this year?
We've been to Sugar, Orange and Cotton Bowls.
You've been to?

NO quarter or praise from me, & hopefully lastly from T-Net!!!
...and some reasons why, other than your obnoxious loser-now-gloaters fan base & just who you lameclucks are in general, are as follows. according to '250 & football warehouse:
> 101-171-10 coots in the SEC = 38% winning record
> 120-169-14 Clemson's record vs. SEC = 41% winning record
soooo...need I explain that our record is better BOTH against you AND than USuCk in your own(ed) precious $EC conference?!
wrong board, wrong team, wrong fan....not happening here! bye-bye birdie

all-time record above .500, you should tread lightly when discussing the record of another team. This little 5 game win streak vs. Clemson, also the first in your history, apparently has been just enough to make you maroons forget the previous 110 years (or so) of one of the most pathetic college football records and traditions.
usuck continues to play second fiddle in the historical orchestra to Clemson--in football and academically (the flagship univerity of the state--what a freakin' joke). I know I'll never live long enough to see the chickens overtake Clemson in this rivalry.....and I love to point out the first 50 or 60 games WERE ALL PLAYED in chickenville.
I find it difficult to believe you'd even chime in when the discussion posts reference historical records.

The SEC isn't overrated, but it is misrepresented. ESPN and others lead you to believe the entire conference is good when in reality only about half the conference is. Bama, LSU, Auburn, UGA, UF & UT are the reason the SEC is the best and they did all the real work to make the conference what it is. The others contributed little to nothing and are essentially free loaders.
Don't believe it? How many teams outside those six teams mentioned above have won the conference in the last 50 years? How many won a BCS bowl? How many had a Heisman winner?

Are Clemson's losses to GT in Atl while in the SEC included in that number? just interested to know.
Also, I find it interesting that you pick one team against a whole conference worth of teams to make an argument about Hype.

Garnet, Our record is what is because we mostly play the powers of the SEC like UGA, Auburn, Bama, LSU and UT. Other than SC--who we have a dominant record against---we rarely play the bottom feeders of the conference.

IMO, the SEC is very top heavy. The big complaint about the SEC is that they feast on FCS teams and don’t play as many good teams OOC. (here is where I know you will say Clemson was OOC) Some of that stereotype is true and some of it isn’t. SEC was second in terms of the number of games played against FCS competition in 2013, playing a total of 14 FCS teams.
since the start of the BCS era in 1998 the conference has overall losing records against the Pac-12 (11-12) and Big East (19-23) and superior but not dominating records against other major conferences? Might the nationwide perception of SEC superiority simply be part of a well-constructed ESPN business plan meant to protect and enhance the network’s $2.25 billion partnership with the SEC?

I answered your question which was about the SEC and I provided an answer. You get an answer and try to switch it to another question. But I will answer you next question...yes the ACC is top heavy. You don't get the answer you want and you try to swing it around to something else.
Now that I have answered your quetion, you can answer mine. How do YOU explain YOUR record against a confrence you say is not overrated? Are you coots just not as good as you think they are?

Simple, we were not at the same level of ability to compleat in the SEC. We got beat.

Garnet, You were given very logical answers to your question, but they just weren't the answers you wanted. So, now that you've finally provided that to us, please explain to us why SC has a losing record in the ACC and to almost every team in the conference including Duke, yet you still want to call the ACC weak?

My honest opinion-
Jul 26, 2014, 9:18 PM
|
|
With exception of the Bama-LSU year, the Nat. champ teams that came from the sec are deserving in my opinion. That being said, I have formed a considerable resentment against the sec. The thought that the rest of the teams are all of the sudden better because the confrence has had a run with the campionships is beyond me. With the networks promoting this concept it becomes incestuous and eventually becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy with the pre-season rankings, the overloaded computer SOS rankings, and the political pull some have in the human votes.
Is the ACC stronger b/c FSU won? Has anyone of note given any credit to the ACC as a conf because FSU won? The answer is a resounding NO. And I think that is the way it should be.

A honest, and well thought-out post, and I agree with many of your points. However if a powerful member of the ACC can't post a winning record against the "bottom half" of the SEC, then the overall strength of the SEC is not overrated.

Garnet, Fact is, we've very rarely played the "bottom half" of the SEC. Especially since the '90s when all this conference pride crap started. We've played UK three times and Miss St once and that's it. Hardly a large enough sample size to make a comparison.

Especially since the '90s
Limiting the sample size, just the same thing that Tnetters complain about when talking about recent rivalry games.

You have to go back into the 60's before you'll find another bottom level SEC team besides UK or Miss St that we've played. Do you really want to base your case on stats from the 60's? I simply mentioned the 90's because that's when SC joined the SEC and like I said, all this conference pride crap started.

Why not, I see that reasoning all the time when it serves your purpose.

In order to respond to that, one would have to know what year or decade you are referring to. The powerful memebers of the ACC and the bottom half of the SEC does not stay the same yr after year.

Strong argument, and I tend to to agree somewhat. But I feel that the SEC has won the games on the field.

Garnet, You mean Bama, LSU, Auburn, UF, UGA & UT have won the games on the field. All the other teams? Not so much.

I'm thinking Tennessee would have won the ACC Championship. Or Georgia. Those teams were awesome.

Guess how many SEC teams could have won the MNC?
Jul 27, 2014, 8:33 AM
[ in reply to How many ACC teams could have won EITHER SEC divisions? ] |

The answer is Zero.
There are 4 acc teams that could've won the sec east and 1 that could've won the west.
There are 6-7 sec teams that could've won the acc coastal
And Zero sec teams that could win the ACC Atlantic.
This is fun! Thanks for bringing this game. Can we do B1G next?

Yep, b/c of one team as in Bama, has the sec hype of being the best and strongest conference in college FB. Take Bama and put them in the acc with Clemson and FSU would = the best FB conference IMO....
