I absolutely abhor James Brown's music; especially songs like Hot Pants, Get On Up (Sex Machine), and Good Foot. Absolutely horrible IMO.

Anyone who's never seen him on stage doesn't appreciate his talent. As far as buying one of his records? I wouldn't even download one of them for free.
I read somewhere that he'd loose up to 22 lbs during a performance. I mean ###!

He was great between 1960 and 1968.I saw him in the old dining hall doing "Night Train" ;"Please, Please, Please", etc. when I was at Clemson, ( 63-67) When he was doing the melodic stuff he was the best in my opinion ,but when he decided to stay in one chord, he kind of lost his audience. Got too Funky.

You need to come down out of stands juggling rattlesnakes, speaking in tongues, and farting Tiger Rag. I'll meet you at the 50 yard line with a mason jar of Popcorn Sutton's finest and a little treat from Humboldt County.

I believe he played in Greenville's Mac Arnold's band in the 60's also.

Arnold comes to the Blues Fest here in Clemson. I'm not sure but the name sounds familiar.

him. He was moon walking before Michael Jackson was born. Seemed like he could defy gravity and certain laws of physics. The original funkster. I remember learning to dance to his tunes, Jr Walker & the All Stars, Booker T & the MG's, etc. Feeding dimes into the juke box at my mom's restaurant... usually after closing time so nobody was watching. LOL
Interesting article, did not know.

I met James Brown when I was around 8

It was on a Sunday afternoon in the late 70s and I was riding my bike outside of my subdivison near Charleston. A man with a purple Corvette pulled up to the Church's Fried Chicken to pick up some food to go. I was admiring the his car and he came out to leave. He said he was James Brown and that my parents knew him and his music. Really nice man.
