For you recruiting gurus: What's up with the DT spot?

Aug 24, 2016, 8:47 AM

We lose Watkins after this year and Gage has already been switched to the OL. Pagano's a redshirt JR, but he could go pro if he graduates and has a good year. At a minimum, we'll be down 2 guys after this year and it could potentially be 3. If you also consider Jabril is having issues with his weight, we could be pretty thin at DT next year with the only known commodities being Big Dex, CW42, Huggy Bear, and Nyles. I know it's a pretty weak 2017 DT group this year overall, but shouldn't we have heard of some DTs by now that are on our radar? It wouldn't have been as much of an issue had we gotten 1 more versatile DL piece like Gary last year, but that didn't quite work out.

Is this gonna be like the DB position last recruiting cycle when we don't hear or know about any of the guys until very late in the process?

I know belk wants to stay in state, so I can't he goes to the dumpster fire. Think he is a junior but he has a lot of potential and I like our chances

Really just not a very strong class this year or next. Missing on Gary was a bit of a setback. We'll likely take one next year, but no specific names come to mind (Josh Belk from Richburg is a likely Gamecock, plus he is vastly overrated currently and already starting to drop significantly in the rankings)

I think the growing trend will continue to be 3 year DL @ Clemson. Wilkins and Dex baring injury are 3 year guys no question.

Wilkins strikes me as the kind of guy

that would stay 4 years and graduate

we will be fine

Aug 24, 2016, 9:06 AM

I see losing Watkins. but we will still have 6 not counting Jabril Robinson (hoping he gains more weight). Even if we do lose Pagano as well, then we will have 5 and maybe 6 if Jabril adds weight again.

2018 is the class we will take 1 or 2. But mostly we will be going after 2-3 DE's.

I still hope we pull in Malik Herring this year and so we can concentrate on Wynn and X. Thomas for 2018 at end and that will allow us to go after 2 DTs

Aubrey Solomon's the top uncomitted SE guy. Seems DAWG bound

Aug 24, 2016, 9:11 AM

though after decommitting from Michigan. He might want to take another look at our depth chart though. It should be very appealing to a top guy from a standpoint of playing early (considering Christian is likely a 3 yr guy).

I guess contingency plans would be to move Gage back to DT or maybe go after Herring with the intent on convincing him to eat his way into being a 3-technique.

I know we haven't heard much about him but don't forget about Sterling Johnson. He was a 4 star recruit. He just needing a little extra time. But so did so many others. He is still just a RS freshman.

2017: Pagano, Wilkins, Lawrence, Huggins, Pinckney, S.Johnson
2018: Lawrence, Huggins, Pinckney, S.Johnson, 2017 croot
2019: Huggins, Pinckney, S.Johnson, 2017 croot, 2018 croot

looks like the 2017 croot could be more of a project as they won't really be asked to contribute much until 2019. however I do agree that we should be looking in this class and we certainly still are. Corey Bolds out of NJ is the one name that comes to mind, he's going to be committing to a school 9/28

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So who will we have next season?

Aug 24, 2016, 11:17 AM

Likely 2017

Wilkins last year
Huggins
Dexter
Sterling?
Jabril
Pinckney

2018

Huggins
Dex
Sterling
Jabril
Pinckney

Am I missing anything?

Aug 24, 2016, 12:30 PM

- Jabril has slid outside, it will be interesting to see if he stays out there

- don't see Pagano leaving after this year, just don't think he'll have enough film for scouts

This would be a good yr to find that G. Jarrett-ish 2 or 3*

Someone with tools, but is an under the radar prospect for whatever reason.

Jalen Walker from Laurens fits the mold IMO. Committed to Coastal but with another big year could see some bigger offers. I personally know him and he is a great kid with huge potential.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pagano, Wilkins, Lawrence, Pinkney, Johnson... 5 is a good #

Aug 26, 2016, 3:19 PM

The only reason we took extra this year is because DEX is naaaaasty. We don't have numbers issues there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up
