Question about switch pitching....

Apr 17, 2015, 12:02 PM

I think I've read about switch pitchers twice on the college level. Obviously it's incredibly rare. The question for trivia fans: has there ever been a switch pitcher at the major-league level? I would imagine that someone who could successfully do that would be able to command a contract with god-like numbers.

And I actually found a reply on Wikipedia, of course. I'm old enough to occasionally forget there's an internet beyond whatever site I'm currently on.

In this case one glove worn on either hand.

That was a very interesting article and video. Never heard of such.

Oakland has one now. He uses a special glove that's essentially hinged down the middle. The tricky part is when facing a switch batter. They got into a yelling match earlier in the season because you're supposed to announce how you're throwing before the batter enters the batters box and then he threw to first several times which is essentially warming up his new throwing arm.

I had a young guy who played on my American Legion team who pitched with either hand but he only used the right or left in a single game. As I recall, he never changed during a inning. He had a single glove for either hand. Very good pitcher too. A real rarity. I seem to remember one from my youth in the major leagues.a
