Wouldn't it be great if every team from the Missouri Valley

Mar 16, 2006, 12:50 PM

Conference lost in the first round? I'd love to see the NCAA Selection comittee squirm over that.

Remind who all is from the MVC?***

Don't remember. I just think it's ridiculous they had the

same number of teams in the torney as the ACC

Why is that ridiculous? ACC deserved 4 and got 4***

The reasons given by the selection committee were, well,

Mar 16, 2006, 1:14 PM

stupid. 99% of the country couldn't name two Missiouri Valley Conference teams.

The question is what is the committee trying to do? Spread the money around, including more to the mid major conferences, or have more competitive games that will peak TV interest. They can't do both, which is why CBS was so pissed off.

They picked the teams they thought were best

Mar 16, 2006, 1:18 PM

Period. Of course I think they probably overdid it on the MVC, and there are some teams with a gripe, but FSU & MD have a line in front of them that have better complaints than them.

Both could've easily played there way in with probably only 1 more win. Neither one showed up, and thus they didn't get the bid.

How do you leave Cincinnati and Louisville out...

Mar 16, 2006, 1:20 PM

in favor of a 2nd, 3rd or 4th place team from the Missouri Valley Conference?

No doubt, they have a legit complaint.

Mar 16, 2006, 1:22 PM

Though Air Force is the first on my list not to beling, and Cinci should be there instead.

My point was that the MVC played the game and dissected the RPI formula and discovered how to schedule their games to best build strong RPI's. The system needs to be reworked, but you can't really say the MVC teams are the only ones that might not belong there.

My post had nothing to do with the number of ACC teams

Mar 16, 2006, 1:39 PM [ in reply to They picked the teams they thought were best ]

but with the number of teams from mid major schools. A few were deserving, but several were not. Especially with a handful of better teams from the power conferences.

It doesn't take a lot of digging to see there was an agenda on the committee to include more mid major teams. The Chairman all but said it on Sunday.

"Gamecocks aren’t ready to take college football by storm just yet. They’re not even ready to compete in their own state – Clemson will still own the territory. Gamecocks fans would be smart to keep their heads buried until that time. Avoid talking trash to a much better Clemson program.” -Dustin Tackett

Because its a discussion about Sports

Mar 16, 2006, 1:19 PM [ in reply to They might, but they still deserved it more than Clemson ]

no one is claiming Clemson should've gotten a bid, but some folks think there were other at large teams more deserving than some of the MVC members that were selected.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A HUGE Clemson inferiority complex...

Mar 16, 2006, 1:22 PM

prevents this poster from having any kind of rational discussion without taking advantage of any and every possible opportunity to make some kind of inflamatory remark about Clemson. It sure must suck to be him.

No one can really complain about getting snubbed

Mar 16, 2006, 1:46 PM [ in reply to Because its a discussion about Sports ]

and if we're going to complain it would have to be Air Force getting in, all of the MVC teams deserved and probably one or two more MVC teams deserved it.
