Tigers still in the running for South Carolina's top linebacker

Lateek Townsend is the 6-2, 217-pounder who is rated as the top linebacker in the state and according to his head coach at Marlboro County, Dean Boyd, he is the complete package. Full Story »

possibly earn immediate playing time. He is a big guy that would fit in well with STeele's defense. Hopefully, these recruits will realize that even though we are not in the mighty SEC, our guys still earn recognition for their hard work....ex. Daquan Bowers.

He would be a good signee for us

although I think is SCU all the way.

Don't know if there is any truth to it...but someone said he was celebrating with the SCU players after the game.

He can come to S Carolina and play early

as well.

We need linebackers bad- especially big linebackers.

I think he can go about anywhere and play early.

Better be cautious...

Dec 7, 2010, 11:26 AM

Allegedly, he spent halftime of one game this year out on the field looking for his diamond earring he lost instead of with his team in the locker room.

And in the playoffs against Cane Bay, got kicked out of the game for punching a ref and swiched jerseys with another player at halftime.

That might explain a little as to why most schools, except S. Carolina, have backed off him.

Looks like Syvelle Newton is recruiting him for the Coots

Dec 7, 2010, 11:49 AM

An article last week talked about how Newton was "advising" this kid and promoting the Coots to him. Here is a blurb from it. The link to the whole article is at the end. If he has Newton as an adviser, I doubt he will end up in orange.

"The two also aren’t afraid to help out and promote the Gamecocks to potential recruits.

Scott said he talked and gave advice to Victor Hampton, who played at Scott’s alma mater Darlington and is being red-shirted this year at USC.

Newton is doing the same with fellow Marlboro County standout Lateek Townsend, who has the Gamecocks among his top five schools to attend. Townsend said he is going to wait until next month’s U.S. Army All-American Game to decide.

“I would love to see him go to South Carolina,” Newton said of Townsend. “It’s a tough decision with both USC and Clemson wanting him, but he needs to get where he thinks is the best place for him.”

look what wonders SC does for its players - rememebr Corey Jenkins. Moved him to D and left him with a reputation that he could only rely on the combine to get him any opportunity. - Why would a player go to USuck over Clemson unless the road to play is filled with too much competition already onboard at CU

Lateek sounds like a fine young man. Hope he comes to Clemson. He would be a great addition to our program.

Can he stay at home on a misdirection and make the tackle? Can he cover a tight end or tail back on a pass route. If so, I will consider replacing his precious diamond earring! We need LB's bad!!!
