Cam Newton did not get cleared. The investigation is still on going. The only reason they cleared him to play in the Championship game is because they currently have no proof that would say otherwise. UNC knew he would get off when they declared him ineligible. This way it looks better and there are no questions the day of the game. In two months or two years this could all change and Auburn will be stripped of all of their titles.

A picture of Chapel Hill should be next to "Lack of Institutional Control" in the NCAA handbook. If there aren't harsh penalties, I honestly don't know how any big-time football program DOESN'T start cheating. Between that and the recent Cam Newton situation, I think the message from the NCAAs would be pretty clear.

However, UNC and Cam Newton's scenarios are COMPLETELY different. One involved a situation where the
player(s) WAS involved in illigeal activity and in the other there was no indication the player even knew what was happening. I think UNC will get handled similarly to the real USC and lose scholarchips/bowl eligibility for a number of years...
