I don't know if it is good or bad that Thompson and Maye are both being pushed so hard. I really thought this year would be a standout year for Thompson and was really counting on Maye to be a proven backer. I really hope these young guys are just that good and not the other way around.

Hargrave(I think it was hargrave....he was a four star defensive end). It's no surprise there.

Good to see the offense has no young pups in the two deep

Everyone in the two deep is in his 3rd-5th year in the system except Boyd at QB (2nd year). As long as KP stays healthy, we have a seasoned guy at every offensive position.
Can't say the same about the D. But the learning curve on D is not so steep. A young guy with great ability can catch on faster on the defensive side.

There are at least two others who will strongly consider the draft, however. We could have some big shoes to fill.

Big question-Who is other KR? And why risk Gilchrest?
Aug 26, 2010, 8:12 AM
|
|
Is he that much ahead of our alternatives? I was expecting Joe Craig or Rod McDowell to be a returner. I would hate to lose Gilchrest to an injury on a return. I do not yet trust our backup corners.

Dabo was asked last year, why risk CJ?

He said you put your best guy out there. Otherwise, you're not playing to win.
Besides, CJ wanted the ball on every kick.

Exactly. Put the best guy on the field ... always.

field position played a huge part in our success last year.
We probably can't expect to duplicate what CJ was able to accomplish, but we sure need to try.

Might as well ask why they let CJ carry the ball on offense.

I've never seen any evidence that a player's more likely to get hurt on a KO return than on a handoff.

Not the same. CJ as KR with proven explosiveness...

and only risking having to play Ellington or Harper in event of injury versus MG and whatever separation there is between our best alternatives at KR (J Craig, J Brown, Ellington...) and risking playing Brewer, Sensabaugh, or Adams as a starting CB. This implication surprises me. The staff must think very highly of MG as a KR, PR ad/or lowly of the backups. Or highly of MG's backups at CB.
Still, the question remains, who is the 2nd KR? backup PR?
You need the 1-, 2- . Just like Spiller an Ford. I want to know who those guys are and if we can see anything like last year great efforts. Last year, the tandem nature of KR1 and KR2 is critical to the success of that play.
