Gene Moore was a credit to Clemson, but more importantly

Oct 7, 2008, 6:21 PM

he was a credit to his family and his hometown of Lake City. He was a man of good judgement and strong character, and he influenced positively young people of Lower Florence County and the surrounding areas for a long and distiguished career.

I competed against Coach Moore's Baseball teams in High School and also in HS Football games in which he assisted as a coach. Additionally, I participated in basketball games that he officiated as a SC High School League official. Coach Moore was fair, he knew his role and he knew the rules of the game.

Time flies in our lives; those events occured beginning 43 years ago and continued for 6 years during an impressionable period in a young farm boy's life who grew up in a nearby community. That same young farm boy was coached by Don Moore, Gene's younger brother.

RIP, Coach Moore.
