bowden is 7-1 against duke.the 1 was bad,but it is only 1. 6 big wins,1 close win and 1 close loss. if we are 14-12 all time in durham it ain't bowden losing them.

Safety Depth

Nov 7, 2007, 4:10 PM

I noticed that Clemmons and Hamlin were still playing late in the game as well. I was wondering why the coaches were leaving the starting defense in, and then after seeing the other personnel on the field, I realized it was mostly second teamers.

Not sure exactly what the reason for this was. I have actually thought that Darius Gaither has looked alright in his limited action, and McDaniel has gotten good minutes throughout the season. Obviously the coaches see far more of these guys in practice, then we as fans do. I just wonder what their concerns about our safety depth are.

Here's my view. Remember when VK said he was

going to simplify the defense? Make it easier on the defense, especially safeties to make their reads?

VK is probably keeping Hamlin in there to see as much offense (that's not Clemson) as possible. The more experience you have, the better you become at reading, reacting, and adjusting to plays.

Then, VK can slowly make tweaks, create a more complex defensive scheme, and everyone is on the same page.

At least, that's the way I'm looking at it....

In pre-season McDaniel was pushing Hamlin for start so

you have to believe that he will round out into a solid starter by next season.

Wonder if Scotty Cooper will eventually be back at Safety when Stanley Hunter gets here.

An entire article without a reference to a snaggled-toothed West Virginian
