ACC Announces Kickoff for ACC Football Championship Game

Last year, the ACC?s second gridiron championship game had Wake Forest claiming a 9-6 triumph over Georgia Tech. Full Story »

1pm. Shocking, horrible venue, and horrible fan support.

Apr 11, 2007, 12:02 PM

The ACC better move the venue to a more ACC central location. The SEC and Big XII have near sellouts or sellouts every game. The ACC hasn't done much in its two games thus far.

Last years attendance was more indicative.....

of the two teams playing who each have really poor fan support. If FSU, VT or Clemson had been playing, the place would have been sold out.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Which makes me wonder why refs hate Clemson so much.

Apr 11, 2007, 12:07 PM

They get paid by the ACC don't they?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Isn't it funny how all fans think the refs "hate" their team***

We do Chicken right...it's not just for frying anymore!

IIRC, VT vs. FSU in the first game wasn't even close to sold

Apr 11, 2007, 12:12 PM [ in reply to Last years attendance was more indicative..... ]

out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FSU had a medicore season (by FSU standards)

Apr 11, 2007, 12:15 PM

and their fans bailed on them. While FSU has a boat load of fans, many of them are fair weather fans.

Year one was pretty full--I was there.....

Apr 11, 2007, 12:17 PM

sold 72K seats---probaly 65K in the stands...now last year lucky if 30-35 K in actual attendnce--think they sold 62K seats....

That's what happens....

Apr 11, 2007, 12:19 PM

when you have a school in the championship game with a student enrollment less than 5,000.

Charlotte is ideal location

Apr 11, 2007, 12:06 PM [ in reply to 1pm. Shocking, horrible venue, and horrible fan support. ]

can't see why Swofford can't seem to figure it out. did not help that Wake and GT were playing last year, whose combined capacity of their home stadiums is only 90K or so.

if it were in charlotte, their would be some "football" fans who would go to the game regardless of who is playing. not so in Jax.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ALL IN!!

yeah so it can be 40 degrees at gametime.***

Apr 11, 2007, 12:07 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Doesn't effect the Big XII.***

Apr 11, 2007, 12:13 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

cause big 12 is full of schools who care about football.

Apr 11, 2007, 12:17 PM

Acc is not.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: cause big 12 is full of schools who care about football.

Apr 11, 2007, 12:23 PM

because the ACC doesn't have schools in BFE :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've been to Jacksonville plenty of times....

Apr 11, 2007, 12:23 PM [ in reply to yeah so it can be 40 degrees at gametime.*** ]

when it was forty degrees or less outside. Jacksonville is not a bad venue but the location is not ideal for the ACC. Charlotte or Atlanta would be better IMO.

"Gamecocks aren’t ready to take college football by storm just yet. They’re not even ready to compete in their own state – Clemson will still own the territory. Gamecocks fans would be smart to keep their heads buried until that time. Avoid talking trash to a much better Clemson program.” -Dustin Tackett

I think Atlanta would be a better location

Apr 11, 2007, 12:17 PM [ in reply to Charlotte is ideal location ]

I know the SEC is there, but play it on a different day (Thursday maybe?)...Georgia Dome is a great venue, easy to fly into, and since no one from Atlanta is native born anymore, there is a good chance there are a lot of alums living in the city already

Look how well the Peach Bowl and SEC championship tickets sell

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the city would hate it if Tech played in it.

Apr 11, 2007, 12:19 PM

lose money.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tech rarely sells out its own home games***

There is one game I will be at next season though!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the venue is not horrible at all. and the weather is usually

Apr 11, 2007, 12:06 PM [ in reply to 1pm. Shocking, horrible venue, and horrible fan support. ]

good there that time of year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

lol, I agree...I remember

Apr 11, 2007, 12:11 PM [ in reply to 1pm. Shocking, horrible venue, and horrible fan support. ]

watching the ACC/SEC title games this year on TV. The Wake/GT game looked like a Thursday night JV game in comparison. Lot of bad offense, a s----y crowd, and a game that felt like it meant very little unless you were one of the 17 Wake Fans down there.

The SECCG looked awesome in comparison. Dynamic players like HArvin and McFadden. Special teams scores, big plays on both sides of the ball.

It is amazing how bush league the ACC is and will continue to be until Swofford is canned.
