TigerNet forum rules review - don't get banned!
Sep 21, 2016, 9:31 AM
|
|
We have been working harder to keep the board in good shape lately. You can help us do this by clicking the purple report abuse icon on any post that is against the rules.
Also, please post in the correct forum. If a post is not Clemson related, please do not post it in the main tiger boards. The amphitheater is for non sports related Clemson topics.
Thank you for your cooperation and help!
Full Rules: http://www.tigernet.com/rules.do TL;DR version:
No trolling (posting to purposefully antagonize other posters) No posing as a Clemson fan (Clemson related username) No pics that you would not be ok for your mom or kids to see Please no animated images in signatures or user icons No posting of private t-mails without consent of the author or permission from the webmaster
You agree, through your use of the TigerNet forums or chat, that you will not use the forum or chat to post any material which is knowingly:
False and/or defamatory Inaccurate Abusive Vulgar Hateful Harassing Obscene Profane Sexually oriented Threatening Invasive of a person's privacy Thread Hijacking (knowingly redirecting the subject of a thread) Post padding (posting for the sole purpose of increasing post count) An attempt to get around the profanity filter Removal of moderator/staff edits from post Otherwise in violation of any law.

Mind defining "poster" & really, antagonize is such an ugly
Sep 21, 2016, 10:32 AM
|
|
word. What's antagonizing to you might be offering a gentle, guiding and helpful hand to others hoping to shepherd those in desperate need of mentoring. It's a judgement call, susceptible to outside influences. What if the Cubs drop one, two or gosh forbid tank in the playdowns again? Billy Goat's Curse never sleeps even though you do. Do you think you and Crump would be in your right mind in making reasonable decisions at that point? My goodness, Crump wakes up on the wrong side of the bed as a matter of course. No, this just won't do.
And really, it appears some here are doing Mods' work as it is, so your attention to this important matter although appreciated, seems redundant, as no RA button will ever replace the TigerNet Community coming together to rightfully defend, in the name of all that is good & holy, the Board(s) from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
In light of all that is above, let us hope this will be the last we speak of this.

poster - a TigerNet member who posts a message on the board
Ok let's try this definition: make a deliberately offensive or provocative online posting with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them.
you know it when you see it

Board(s) best interest to separate the wheat from the chaff, it's the will of the people - social Darwinism, B.
Your very definition seems a personal attack and an attempt to poison and/or destroy my brothers. I will not stand by idly while you lump the entire Community into your sordid little box.
Did that upset you in any way? Be honest now, people are playing from home. I mean really, I'm not responsible for how someone, anyone takes anything I might post.
It's patently ####### stupid.

We get rid of chaff every day. The report abuse button helps us do this. Are you saying you troll people to try and get rid of them? If so, I don't think that usually works. Maybe I'm not following.
Which definition is a personal attack? Not sure what you mean about the box.
I think your point is that trolling is subjective, and that is partially true in that there is obvious trolling and some that could go either way. I feel like we are pretty fair and only ban in cases that are more on the obvious side.
Does that make sense?

Posters are not created equal & for you to lump all posters

into the same sordid little box is offensive. Is that clear enough?
You and Crump have shown that you are reactive at best, that's not personal, it's a matter of fact and I have tmails from Crump and YOU that have shown you're apt to grease the squeaky wheel.
It's your board, but allowing the few RAs to rule your day and stead is an egregious affront IMO.
This is a perfect example of your process and the type of poster you've lumped in with everyone else?
![]()
I received a Crumpgram because the above was "offended". Really? Do you believe that person, capable of such emotional nonsense, is to be trusted with an RA button, much less Crump or anyone taking that emotionally encumbered person's complaint seriously?
Sorry, I know you do what you can and I will always appreciate that, B, but I'll continue to do as I do and if 81to85 gets her panties in a twist because someone posts the above or anything she might find offensive, then so be it, but I'll not kowtow to those that replace reason with madness because they can't hold their emotional water.
It's a better world in which I live and I'll be sure to put 3 in 1 on my shopping list for you guys come the holiday season.

I agree that all posters are not equal but the same rules still apply to everyone. I'm still not following your point on this, sorry. I really want to understand what you are saying with lumping people into a box. The box is the rules? Sorry I was a CPSC major, not a lawyer
I think you are worried that sensitive posters will RA everything and end up controlling the board somehow? The fact is the RA button is pressed VERY rarely, maybe 10x per day at most and many times its the same post reported by several people. Also, just because someone RA's a post doesn't mean we are going to remove it if it's not breaking any rules.
I don't know the context of the 81to85 post and what your reply was. It's a strange post for sure. Alcohol may have been involved... I would have to see your reply to know if a Crumpagram was warranted.
Thanks for the feedback.

mother, worries me - I lost my father 2 years ago. I have no feelings you can hurt, this board is for entertainment purposes only and your suggestion that I might be worried only galvanizes my stance.
You deleted a post of mine because you said there were complaints, then proceeded to tell me "posting tmails is never a good idea". There's no rule against anything I did. The tmails were from a former poster, by your definition and therefore, not counter to anything you've offered. That's complete horse poop.
I can't help you anymore than I have, sorry, but this crap of supporting a poster such as this one:
http://www.tigernet.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=20059465#20059465
is antithetical to message boards in general, ones that should create an environment for the exchange of ideas, not one where Crump can TD at his leisure.
I appreciate your conditioned non-response, as always.

Ok I've clarified that in the rules, thanks.
No posting of private t-mails without consent of the author or permission from the webmaster
I don't know what you mean by "supporting a poster such as this one".
The Crump TD thing always cracks me up, like he is sitting there just TDing people all day. He doesn't really need to TD, he could just drop someones pulse in half if he wanted. Just for fun, I calculated that at most he TDs around 10 posts per month out of 50k+ posts. That does not seem like very much to me.

You show Thumbs Up, but won't show TDs?
It's a simple fix, you've said so yourself and if so then what's the hold up? You've suggested it's because it would create a "storm" of sorts, but common sense says it would beg an explanation instead of some sordid, behind the scenes act of social terrorism.
I'm afraid the only thing left is that you were covering for Crump, but who can blame you.
As far as Crump being able to take half my points, he's welcome to them and in fact I was promised that would happen.
I don't give two craps about Pulse or TDs, as another astute poster has already informed you, they are Badges of Honor.
What I do find interesting, is that a Message Board promotes or provides the ability to circumvent the sharing of ideas, point-counterpoint.
We'd hate for Crump or anyone for that matter that relies on a button to speak intelligently for them to step out from behind the curtain.
It's antithetical; there's a message in there.

We may show the thumbs down someday, but as I've said before I think it would cause a lot of "distractions". Say you make a perfectly good post and someone gives it a TD, or say someone is giving ALL your posts a TD. What would most people do? They would go TD that person, harass them, and/or send them or us a t-mail, etc.
It has nothing to do with covering up Crump's 10 TD's per month.
I would love to hear an explanation of how this board "promotes or provides the ability to circumvent the sharing of ideas, point-counterpoint." I guess you are referring to users ability to RA, but every forum has that so that can't be it. The TD button?

No, a TD and only a TD is a joke. For the life of me...

[ in reply to Re: The Crump TD thing also cracks me up. ] |

It's not a point or counter point, it's not a thought provoking message providing reason as to "why" someone might disagree.
IT IS A TERRORIST MECHANISM, no response required and anyone offended by my use of the word "terrorist" can go pound sand or grow a set.
Perhaps make the ability to TD only available if there is a text/body/post first, then the TD is enabled.
I'm sorry, B, I'm at a loss in how much of this is difficult to fathom or understand and I'm growing a bit weary of how much of what I've offered has gone unaddressed. That's not an attack, you are the best of them, I understand time and your lack of presence on the boards make much of what I've written unfamiliar to you.
It's second nature and this is by far not the first time a lot of this has been broached.
Anyway, I'm sure we'll cross this bridge again and as always, I appreciate what you ALL do.
This place is a great escape from the crap out there, a barrel of laughs and good times for many, my only complaint complaint is that Political and Religious [insert appropriate language filter bypass and direct violation to the rules here] be flushed to the ######## that is P & R.

Ok, so you don't like the TD button, gotcha. It's a fair point and worth discussing, but it does seem to work quite well in flushing out the trolls. Also being donor only I don't think it's abused all that much as most donors have a vested interest in the community. One reason I like it is it gives a voice to the many non-posting members, although as you can see its really not used all that much overall.
I really do better with bullet points than essays, sorry. I think I might have been getting confused with the RA button. Terrorist mechanism is a little harsh, and probably a personal attack (sorry couldn't resist).
Sorry if I missed addressing some of your points. Again, bullet points are good Please feel free to t-mail me regarding those missed points.
We will make every attempt to move all P&R stuff to the P&R. It was a little touchy last week due to Dabo's comments, since those are certainly football related. But it did spiral a little out of control.

">
Terrorist mechanism or subversive act is one done under the cloak of darkness, behind the scenes. Nothing personal there unless the perp is readily offended at which point, IDC. It's not a response, it's a cowardly act of sorts and really, pandering to "those that don't post" is pandering and you swore you did not do that. Bad B, is bad.
And it's not that I don't like it, it's antithetical to a message board. It's an ideal, not a like or dislike, in fact it's been said to you a number of times, they are if anything Badges of Honor, but still... it provides a way to avoid interaction which is anti the spirit of this board, no?
With all that said, it does rear its head on the board as some are offended by the "cowardly act" and if my NAT post didn't speak directly to its "misuse", then what would? And really, you questioned why I made the NAT TD% post, then come at me with, I don't think it's abused all that much as most donors have a vested interest in the community? Am I to take it you agree that NAT doesn't have a vested interest in the welfare of this community based on the abuse of that button in a relative day's time? It's sort of absurd the way that child wielded it today, unless of course @davidhood and @Crump are up to their old tricks?
It's ok, it'll be our dirty little secret.

Whose "good taste" is used to define "vulgar," for instance?
I suspect the most sensitive people will be catered to and everyone else will have to walk on eggshells. Others will feign being sensitive just to get stuff they disagree with removed and people they don't like banned. Can't wait.

I would use this definition for that

vulgar - Making explicit and offensive reference to sex or bodily functions; coarse and rude.
Like I told DSP, nobody is going to be catered to. They can RA all day long but if we don't find anything wrong with it, we aren't going to do anything.

Good point. B-Meist can you institute a daily "RA" limit
Sep 21, 2016, 12:44 PM
|
|
for each "poster"?
I mean, how many times a "poster" can hit the "RA" button.
Please to your attention.

I'll do my part. I admit, I'm occasionally rough on known trollers (closet coots) that slip through the cracks...and I may post an attractive pig of a woman or two.
Maybe this election season has got people's panties in a bunch but this board does seem to be heated as of late.

I'm TUing everybody trying to get my TD ratio back under 1%. I ruined that rating by TDing coots, domers and the other alien invaders.

If I TD'd every post I removed, I'm sure my ratio would be more like 90% TD. Maybe he TDs them before removing, I'm not sure. But I don't think a 50/50 ratio seems all that bad, does it? I think the number of TDs is important since that is less than 1 per day, which is insignificant to anyone's pulse (not that anyone cares about their pulse

others, myself most importantly, do.
Honestly, your thoughts on the matter are yours and won't change mine. It's an egregious number, look around and goes to show that Crump TDs without a response, a cowardly act in some peoples view. I'm not the only one that has broached this with you in the past, I just took up the cause because I was bored and it's outlandish to have a Mod go down this path while at the same time pandering for my money.
Nothing you type will change that and I won't stop bringing it to the forefront.
As for the percentage, why don't you take a look around, it's high - see for yourself and again, based on the available information which doesn't belong? I thought that might be more palatable to your degree by putting it forth in a set of data points.
How much time do you have today? Yesterday was bueno, another exciting and fun filled day on the TigerNet.

This post reads really differently when you insert "an" between the second and third words...
