Like comparing apples and oranges... yes you can compare apples and oranges. But probably more contrastable than comparable.

Not sure who you mean by "he" or what phrase you're referring to as "that".
Let me try again: my point is that I agree with the original poster's thesis that the two teams are not figuratively (as I feel sure he meant) comparable, where comparison is the process of assessing similarities between things and contrasting (from my earlier post) is the act of examining differences, and hence his coot acquaintance is moronic to make such a claim. Just my (and original poster's) opinion, though. Doubt if he meant to imply that they were not literally comparable.

No problem at all. They are comparable by definition 1, not by definition 2 (in my opinion). You use definition 1 and say they are comparable, I'll use number 2 and say they are not comparable.
