Dorian O'Daniel

Rarely mentioned, but he has the opportunity to be an impact player on the defense this year. He has great instincts and really plays the run well (see GT the past two years). I think he'll be a clear upgrade at nickel/SAM.

What are your thoughts on him for the upcoming season?

ball, and has the tools to be a star. I'm a little surprised that he hasn't contributed more up to this point, but if he gets whatever has been holding him back worked out, I would expect him to have a huge, breakout year.

Agreed.

He ran a sub-4.5 40 this summer so the tools are certainly there.

It's been more of a fit thing - with the safeties we had and the offenses we've played against, we've gone with a true nickel more often. I wouldn't be surprised to see O'Daniel much more often this year to bolster run support, though.

Seems like coming out of high school his coverage skills were better than a good bit of the secondary players in that class.

I agree. His intensity and understanding of his assignments seemed pretty good to me for a Freshman.
