That's better than a one game suspension at least. He could have taken soemones life which is a little more permanent.

###, I bet he's tore up about that.
I know, he needs classes to be eligible to participate in football next fall.

It strikes me as...wrongheaded. Urban Meyer has a degree in psychology, but he's always seemed to get his team's psychology wrong. He completely lost the team at UF and created a me-first culture where the star players got preferential - even excusatory - treatment and it ended up creating an entitled bunch of babies who made FSU's current crew look ordinary. He ended up bailing on that team mostly because he had to, the locker room was out-of-control and absolutely eating itself.
You're seeing a lot of signs of that with his current iteration of Ohio State - they were awesome and ahead of schedule last year, this year - when everybody thought they would be the kings of college football, a new dynasty - they've really struggled with focus, preparation, and stuff off the field is starting to creep onto it...which eerily parallels what we saw with the Gators.
And taking away a player's scholarship aid money? That leaves me scratching my head, and again speaks to how tone-deaf psychologically Meyer really is. Players already know they're way under-compensated compared to the revenue they generate for their school, which creates a culture where a lot of big-money boosters feel they "owe" it to the players to send payola their way and players tend to have their hands out. The official deal is, a player produces value on the football field, and in exchange, the school provides that player with an education and a degree. JT Barrett has created an enormous amount of value for the school...and one wrong move, and Meyer yanks what little legitimate compensation Barrett receives for his efforts? That won't fly well, not with Barrett, not with the players in the Ohio State locker room.
A more appropriate response would have been a 2-game suspension...but of course, that might cost the Buckeyes a chance at the playoffs and another national championship...so they skirt that, and expect Barrett to continue generating value for the University even while they're taking some of what little they were giving him away. So Barrett will continue to represent the Ohio State Buckeyes on the football field...he just won't be getting his value in education for it.
What message does that send? If the message is that a player receiving an education is clearly less important than winning football games, that message could not have been sent more clearly.
Meyer is an intelligent, calculating, well-spoken, and focused guy. The problem has always been with him, he's always come across as more than a bit of a psychopath without much in the way of a moral compass, and the mixed messages he sends always seem to burn up the cohesion of his locker rooms after awhile. It happened at UF, it happened at Utah, it happened at Bowling Green...and here he is, doing it yet again.
I think Meyer's definitely hitting his descent phase there at OSU. Some guys are slash-and-burn specialists and Meyer seems to be one of them.
