I know a lot of you have seen that Smith decommitted a little while ago. However..... I just spent several minutes on the phone with one of Clemson's key 2016 commits and he told me that all of the commits are in a text message group. He says Smith told the group that in his heart he is still committed to Clemson and that once he takes his five official visits he will recommit to the Tigers. Smith told the group that you only get to go through this process one time and he wants to enjoy it without worrying about upsetting the Clemson coaching staff.
I am getting ready to walk onto the practice fields right now so I will not be able to answer questions until later.

They can only take his place if the coaching staff accepts another committment, and if he and the staff have an understanding, then he will have his spot when he is ready to recommit.

Yep, nobody better at the position in the country and we have the 2nd best guy as well. At worst allows us to take Shavar Manuel or Antonneous Clayton. We are in it more than I thought for Manuel

What kind of message does it send to other recruits if he takes other visits and is allwowed to come back? I won't be surprised if Swinney does pull his scholarship offer. After all, all this was explained to Smith before he commited.

Him and Shavar Manuel are taking official visits together. Plus, him and Shavar are coming to clemson. Maybe, we will get shavar and smith, who knows. Trust in the clemson staff that he will be a tiger

Can't recall a decommitment like this ending up at the decommitted school. Some element of trust gets lost in the process or something, but for whatever reason, it doesn't ever seem to work out.

I believe, if it was his choice, he would remain committed to Clemson throughout all his visits.
He only recommitted to honor and respect Dabo's rule and you guys are still complaining? He's doing exactly what he should do.

I think he ends up at Maryland. He's been there a ton lately and has a very good relationship with their coaches. We'll be okay regardless.

and just wants to make sure he's making the right decision. If he didn't want to come to Clemson he would have just said so. There would be no need to get elaborate. I don't blame him for being curious....check 'em all out and then recommit to us later. If Dabo is giving him leeway then he's worth it.

De committed from the school he loves. Hmmm not too smart to me. Hope he knows that it could go south quickly. It seems to be he is a little spoiled 5*. That his friend is pulling him another way.

Stop dude.
This is by far the most mutual and easy decommit we've seen. He's been clemson day 1 and this is far from a Kemdeechee or Dalvin Cook type event. Read the updates and quotes. Goodness.

Still feel like this young man will be a Clemson Tiger. If he does decide to go another way then I wish him nothing but the best. We want student athletes that are all in, and if he decides he is that he will be here. I sure know he would look good in orange running down that hill though.

You know? I quit worrying about CLEMSON recruiting long ago. Any staff that can recruit as well as our staff of coaches needs to be respected more. I think it would be wise on our part to just sit back and enjoy the show. Their success has been somewhat amazing the past few years IMO.
Anyone that has ever managed other people knows to just stay out someone's way if they perform this well. You don't question their approach or methods.
Just my 2 cents.
