I know what we did in the 80's doesn't even compare to the total scam that UNC has pulled, but we got sanctions for our title in 81. I still like to think we won it.

just back from vacation.. got in late last night
only took time to respond to a few emails and didn't even look here for the last 9 days
haven't had a chance to read the NOA yet and will probably be a couple more days before i'm caught up at work

UNC with the largest cheating scandal in the history of the NCAA. Wonder if Swoffy will add more penalties after they come out. Multiple programs involved in multiple departments. Fake classes and forged signatures galore. A's given to keep players eligible. Head of their ethics department was a ring leader.
Meanwhile Roy did not know anything.

finally had a chance to read the stuff last night... nearly over my vacation jet-lag 
the NCAA NOA only deals with stuff that happened from 2002 through 2011 - although it does make one reference to the scheme lasting 18 years
what you have to remember is that the first few years of the scheme (when Swofford was AD), it was a very small deal. it was pretty much one misguided administrative person, Crowder, who was working for a very lax department chair, and abusing the system.
pretty hard to place any blame on the AD for that. it's not the AD's job to monitor 70 academic departments and more than 3,000 faculty.
after about 1999, when she actually started creating classes and inserting them into the system as lecture classes when they were paper-only, you get what can accurately be called an institutional problem.
